Golf outing salutes police, veterans
Business advocacy group invites area police officers and military veterans to its golf outing
Area cops, Marines and National Guard members joined chamber members from more than 40 businesses.
MONTGOMERY COUNTY >> The PennSuburban Chamber of Greater Montgomery County’s recent golf outing — an event held annually to support the growth of business in the region, provide executive networking and fund various educational programs and community events — took on extra significance this year as the Chamber invited area police officers and military veterans to attend as a show of thanks for everything they do.
The day-long outing at the Lederach Golf Club in Harleysville on Sept. 22 was “a way to show local law enforcement that we support them during a trying time for their profession across the country,” said Chamber President and CEO Pam Kelly.
“The hope was for even a small representation of police to get away for a day, engage in a friendly competition and spend time with the businesses in understanding how much their service is appreciated,” Kelly said.
Cops from the Lower Salford, Montgomery Township, Upper Gwynedd and Lower Gwynedd police departments, as well as members of the Marines and U.S. National Guard, joined Chamber members from more than 40 different area businesses for the outing.
“As well as the police, we just wanted to let the veterans — the men and women who serve this country — know on behalf of the community that we really appreciate them so, so much for putting their lives on the line for all of us,” said Kelly, adding that Chamber member David Magagna, of Alcom Printing in Harleysville, was instrumental in organizing the event.
“It was a really great day, and we’re looking forward to having even more police officers and veterans join us next year,” Kelly said.
