SELLERSVILLE >> Criminal charges are pending against a man who police say stabbed a woman in the head with a pen during an attempted carjacking in Sellersville on Monday morning, then stole another vehicle before being located and taken into custody a couple of hours later.
Perkasie police, who are investigating the incident, said that just after 7 a.m. on March 20, a woman sitting in her vehicle at the intersection of South Main Street and Park Avenue when the suspect — who has not yet been named by authorities — walked up to her and asked for assistance. When she opened her car door, the man began stabbing her in the head with a pen and tried to pull her out of the vehicle, but after failing to do so, he fled on foot, according to police.
A few minutes later, a minivan was reported stolen from Hughes Avenue, a few blocks away, but a Franconia police officer located the vehicle and the suspect about two hours later near Allentown and Lower roads, police said.
The stabbed woman was treated at an area hospital and released.
Police said the suspect may have been suffering from mental health issues and he was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
The stolen minivan was not damaged and it was returned to its owners, police said.
