PW wins SHSHL Middle School B Championship
The Plymouth Whitemarsh Ice Hockey Middle School team won the Suburban High School Hockey League (SHSHL) Middle School B championship. The Colonials finished the 2016-2017 season in second place with an 11-3 record. The semifinals were held March 15 at Bucks County Ice where the Colonials faced third seed Abington and came away with a 6-4 win. The Colonials then defeated the first place Council Rock North in an exciting championship game held March 16 at Wintersport Ice Area.
Zach Spera, assisted by Thomas Corcoran, slipped the puck by Council Rock North’s goalie to put the first score on the board. Jeffrey Mencken, with the assist by Spera, snuck one by to finish the first period with a 2-0 lead.
Council Rock North showed up in the second period, tying the score with goals by Gavin Tuniewicz, assisted by Morgan Mosley and Ava Rice, assisted by Wilton Pasch. The Colonials’ Dylan Novitski, assisted by Corcoran, answered back to put the Colonials ahead by one to end the second period.
On a power play in the third period, the Colonials’ Sean Ward scored, assisted by Nolen Morasco and Novitski, giving PW a 4-2 lead. With six minutes left, Council Rock North’s F. Brent Weise scored. In a very exciting end to the game, the Colonials held their own to win the championship 4-3.
Both PW goalies did a fine job of defending their goal. Kolton Galie defended the goal for the Colonials in the first and second periods and Chris Maslij was in net for the third.
The championship trophy was presented to the middle school team and coaches by the PW Ice Hockey club president Tom Byrnes and PW varsity head coach Josh Aiello. The team captain is Thomas Corcoran and assistants are Nicholas Maslij and John Cubbin.

The head coach is David Cox and the assistant coaches are Jack Morasco and Jordan Waxman. Kirsten Galie is the team manager.
