A woman died after being removed from a house fire; the incident is under investigation
TOWAMENCIN >> Authorities are investigating the cause of a house fire and a woman’s death in Towamencin Township on Friday evening, according to Dean Miller, public information officer of the Towamencin Volunteer Fire Company.
Fire crews were dispatched to a house fire in the 700 block of Abbey Lane around 6:42 p.m. April 14. A caller reported a person was believed to be inside the home, Miller said.
The fire was on the first floor of the house, and a female resident of the home was found inside, Miller said.
The woman, whose identity is not being publicly released at this time, was removed from the house and treated briefly at the scene before Lansdale Volunteer Medical Service Corps transported her to Abington-Lansdale Hospital Jefferson Health. The woman subsequently died, Miller said.
Fire personnel were able to get the fire under control in less than a half-hour, according to Miller. One other person lives in the home, Miller said, but was not in the residence. Two dogs were also in the home at the time of the blaze, and one did not survive, according to Miller.
The Towamencin Police De-
partment, Montgomery County Detective Bureau, Towamencin fire marshal and Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal are currently handling the investigation of the cause of the fire and the woman’s death.
Fire crews cleared the Abbey Lane home around 9 p.m. Friday, while investigators remained on the scene through the evening, Miller said.
The Towamencin Volunteer Fire Company, the Fairmount Fire Company of Lansdale, VMSC and the North Penn Volunteer Fire Company of North Wales were among the responders to the scene.
