Clayton “Bob” Smith, 90, of Lansdale, passed away Tuesday, April 18 in Elm Terrace Gardens surrounded by his family.

He was the devoted husband of Margaret (Wolf) Smith.

Born in Philadelph­ia, he was a son of the late Irvin C. AND Dorothy (Fout) Smith.

Bob graduated from Olney High School in 1945 and attained a Bachelor of Business Administra­tion Degree from Temple University in 1972. His studies were interrupte­d while he served in the United States Navy, stationed in the Philippine­s at the end of World War II. He was also employed with Merck for more than 40 years as an accountant.

Volunteeri­ng was a passion in Bob’s life. He was active at the Lansdale YMCA, Meals on Wheels, and was a Boy Scout Troop leader and merit badge counselor in both Philadelph­ia and Montgomery­ville.

He was also a very active member of Sanctuary UMC in North Wales. He was a member of the choir and was proud of his role as a soloist. Bob also led the Youth Group, held positions on the Board of Trustees, the Administra­tive Board, and the Building Committee. He also had a large role on the Congregati­onal Care Team, where he visited infirm and homebound church members.

In his free time, Bob loved camping, swimming, and was a passionate Philadelph­ia Phillies fan. Most of all, he will be remembered as a devoted husband and family man.

Surviving Bob, in addition to his wife Margaret, are his sons, James Smith (Suzanne); Kenneth Smith (Jennifer); his grandchild­ren, Michele Boyle (Mike); Alicia Hott (Mike); Elizabeth Johnson (Jon); Missy Smith; Michael Smith; Christi Smith; six greatgrand­sons; and his sister, Doris Rodgers (Elbert), of Jacksonvil­le, FL. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard F. Smith.

Relatives and friends will be received by his family after 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 20, in Sanctuary United Methodist Church, 1346 E. Prospect Ave., North Wales, PA 19454 and are invited to attend a service in celebratio­n of Bob’s life at 11 a.m. Interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, contributi­ons in memory of Bob may be made to the Lansdale Area YMCA, 608 E. Main St., Lansdale, PA 19446, to the Montgomery County Veterans, 1430 DeKalb St., Norristown, PA 19401, or to his church at the address listed above.
