John J. Mitchell, 97, of Harleysvil­le, died Saturday, April 22, 2017.

He was the beloved husband of the late Catherine A. Mitchell, who died Aug. 12, 2012.

Born Dec. 17, 1919, in Clayton, NJ, he was a son of the late John Francis and Bertha (Myers) Mitchell.

Mr. Mitchell was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served his country honorably during World War II.

He was employed as an executive with the automotive industry for many years, retiring in 1990.

John was an avid dancer, and he loved the Phillies and playing pinochle. Earlier in life, he enjoyed coaching youth baseball.

Survivors include his children, Maria Monras-Sender, Anne Palmer (Brent), John J. Mitchell, Jr., Kathleen Mitchell, and Christina Vleisides (late James); nine grandchild­ren; eight greatgrand­children; and siblings, Charles Mitchell, Richard Mitchell, and Alice Diven.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Francis Mitchell; and sister, Mary Gorski.

Relatives and friends may call after 9 a.m. Wednesday, April 26, at Corpus Christi Church, 900 Sumneytown Pike, Lansdale, followed by the Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Norristown.

Arrangemen­ts are by the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Lansdale.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributi­ons be made in Mr. Mitchell’s memory to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, 58 Progress Parkway, Maryland Heights, MO 63043, or the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250.
