Norman Joseph Balchunas, 80, of Royersford, passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2017.

He was born in Shamokin, PA on September 24, 1936, the son of the late Helen (Pavleski) and William Balchunas.

Norman has been living in the Royersford area since 1991, formerly of Lansdale where he was a member of St. Stanislaus RC Church.

Norman earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Bloomsburg University in 1958, then went on to earn his Master’s Degree in Administra­tion from Villanova University and a Master’s Degree in Education from Temple University.

He was a life-long educator, were he started his profession­al career as business teacher and eventually an Assistant Principal at North Penn High School and Principal at New Hope - Solebury High School.

Norman was a talented musician and enjoyed playing the accordion. He was a member of several bands including the local “Melody Knights” and part of the “Jimmy Sturr” polka band.

He was the beloved husband of the late Claire (Kulick) Balchunas.

Survivors include his son, Norman (& Ginger) Balchunas of Washington, DC; daughter, Ginger Childs of Pottstown; brother, Alvin (& Barbara) Balchunas of Hanover, PA; four grandchild­ren, Jessica (& Matt) Shirley, William Balchunas, and Brett and Chrissy Childs; and one great grandson, Brayden.

In addition to his wife and parents, Norman was preceded in death by his sister, Florence Chylak.

His graveside service (St. John Neumann Cemetery, Chalfont) and interment will be private.
