Souderton survives PW in double OT

On Senior Night, the Plymouth Whitemarsh boys lacrosse team was fighting for its playoff life.

The fight was a sparkling, but disappointing result.

The Indians got an overtime goal from Trent Breneman to topple the Colonials, 8-7, in a contest that gave PW’s chances for a District One postseason berth a major dousing.

Walker Martin’s two first-period goals propelled the Indians into a 2-0 lead after one quarter, but two goals by Mike Ianurelli and another from Kenny Diamond pushed the Colonials into

a 3-2 lead at halftime.

And when PW exploded for three goals in the third quarter’s eight minutes, it appeared the Colonials were on their way to a huge victory.

But Souderton had other ideas.

The visitors got a goal in the final minutes of the third quarter, and another in the first 63 seconds of the fourth. And when the Indians scored 11 seconds later, the contest was suddenly tied.

The Colonials grabbed a 7-6 lead with 4:37 left in regulation, only to see the Indians tie it just moments later.

The contest came down to the second extra session, and the visitors took over after a failed Colonials chance.

And when Breneman found the net, bedlam erupted on the Indians sideline.
