Week of May 14 MOTHER’S DAY HIKE

Sun., May 14: Take a walk with mom and the rest of the family this Mother’s Day at Lorimer Park. The naturalist-led hike will be a great way to spend the day with your mother. Beginning at the ranger hut the hike will cover a few scenic miles in the park. Enjoy the sights and sounds of spring! Wear your hiking shoes. This is a free event which is appropriat­e for adults and children ages seven and older. It starts at 1:00 pm and preregistr­ation is required. BIRDS FOR BEGINNERS

Mon., May 15: Take a ‘first look’ at birds. Learn what makes birds different from other animals at the “Birds for Beginners” program at Norristown Farm Park on Monday, May 15, 2017 at 1:00pm. Hear a story and make a craft to go with the theme of the program. This program is suitable for children three and older with adult accompanim­ent. There is a $5.00 fee per child. LEAP INTO SCIENCE! AIR IS EVERYWHERE

Tues., May 16: A fun program -- at 2 p.m. at Norristown library -- designed to engage children and their families in science and literacy by integratin­g handson science activities with children’s literature. Parents are encouraged to share the excitement of discovery with your child! We will be exploring the properties of air. The LEAP into Science program began in 2007 as a partnershi­p between The Franklin Institute and the Free Library of Philadelph­ia. For kids in grades K-6. AUDUBON BIRD TOWN WALK

Tues., May 16: Explore Lorimer Park and the Bethayres Swamp, an official Audubon IBA (Important Bird Area) during an Audubon Bird Town Bird Walk on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 8:00 am to look for resident species. All are welcome, including new birders and experience­d birders alike. Leaders will be from the Wyncote Audubon Society. Participan­ts are encouraged to bring their own binoculars.This free program

FAIR DAY & PIE CONTEST

Sat., May 20: The Church of the Holy Spirit, 2871 Barndt Rd at intersecti­on with Sumneytown Pike, Harleysvil­le, will hold its annual Fair Day & Pie Contest and Festival from 9 a.m, to 3 p.m. This annual

fundraisin­g event benefits the Keystone Opportunit­y Center. Featured are local artisans, crafters, a flea market, food, a large plant sale and children’s events. The pie festival includes a pie contest and sales of a huge variety of homemade pies. Week of May 21

Sun., May 21: The 4th Annual Jake’s Run2Rememb­er will be held at Norristown Area High School for runners of all ages. Registrati­on will take place by the gymnasium of high school. The course will begin near the tennis courts on Eagle Drive, travel up towards Whitehall Road, through the Norristown Farm Park, back across Whitehall Road, down Eagle Drive and finish near the football field in the athletic parking lot. All proceeds benefit the Jason S. Moletzsky Memorial Fund and the coast Guard Foundation Fallen Heroes Scholarshi­p Fund. Jake Moletzsky, a Norristown native, was one of seven Guardians and two Marines who were lost at sea when his Coast Guard C-130 airplane suffered a mid-air collision with a Marine Corps AH-1W helicopter in 2009.
