Pet Valu dog-wash benefit at all locations this weekend
It’s bath time for Buster and Bella.
If it’s been a while since your furry best friend has been acquainted with some soap and water, here’s your chance to lather him or her up for a good cause.
Pet Valu and the Animal Cancer Foundation are partnering up once again to combat cancer in dogs, cats and other pets.
On May 20 and 21, all Pet Valu stores are hosting a “Come Clean for Cancer” benefit on Saturday and Sunday, with all proceeds from their $10 spa-like dog washes going to the Animal Cancer Foundation.
“It’s not every day we can celebrate dirty dogs for a good cause, and our Come Clean for Cancer fundraiser always brings out a ton of customer support,” said Joe Dent, vice president and U.S. general manager for Pet Valu. “As much as everyone loves a good, clean dog, there’s a lot more to be said for a clean bill of health and we are wholly committed to the incredible strides our friends at Animal Cancer Foundation are making every day for pet health.”
Last year, Pet Valu raised $35,000 for the cause.
According to Fetch a Cure, dogs get cancer at roughly the same rate as humans, with 6 million new cases every year.
The Animal Cancer Foundation reports that the most common cancers in our pets are lymphoma, bone cancer, breast cancer, bladder tumors, leukemia, brain tumors and sarcomas.
Animal Cancer Foundation spokes-dog Bocker, a Labradoodle diagnosed with lymphoma in December 2014, worked harder than any dog to raise awareness for the cause and funding for research.
“Sadly, he lost his battle with cancer, but he’ll remain forever in our hearts,” a spokesperson noted in a press release.
