Rambo leads Maryland men’s lacrosse to Final Four

La Salle grad scores eight points in win over Albany

Matt Rambo (Glenside/La Salle) had four goals and four assists to finish with a career-high eight points for the second straight game as the Maryland men’s lacrosse team advanced to its fourth consecutiv­e Final Four with an 18-9 victory over Albany in the NCAA quarterfin­als Sunday.

In the win, Rambo became the first Maryland player to record 40 goals and 40 assists — he has 40 goals and 43 assists so far this season — and tied for the program’s alltime goals lead at 153.

The Terrapins, the top seed in the NCAA Tournament, face No. 5 Denver in the national semifinal 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachuse­tts. Winner faces No. 3 Ohio State or Towson for the national title Monday,

May 29. • Laura Frankenfie­ld (North Wales/Wissahicko­n) finished with one assist, one ground ball, one caused turnover and one draw control as the Boston College women’s lacrosse team reached its firstever Final Four with a 20-14 victory over Southern California in the NCAA quarterfin­als last Saturday.

Frankenfie­ld had a two goals and assists in both of the Eagles first two win in the NCAA Tournament — 21-9 over Canisius in the first round May 12 and 2110 over Syracuse May 14.

Boston College takes on Navy in the national semifinals 7:30 p.m. Friday at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachuse­tts with winner facing either Maryland or Penn State in the national title game Sunday.

• Kyle Seelig (Hatfield/Plumstead Christian) helped the Ohio State men’s tennis team advance to the NCAA Division I semifinals by rallying past TCU’s Trevor Johnson 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 to win sixth doubles as the third-seeded Buckeyes edged the No. 6 Horned Frogs 4-3 in the quarterfin­al last Saturday at the University of Georgia’s Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

The win extended Seelig’s unbeaten streak to 15 and gave the redshirt freshman 30 singles victories this season.

• East Stroudsbur­g women’s lacrosse Chessie Rahmer (Salfordvil­le/Souderton Area) was named to the Intercolle­giate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Associatio­n (IWLCA) Division II All-America third team.

Rahmer, a junior midfielder, led the Warriors in goals (50) and points (60) and was second on the team in caused turnovers (34), ground balls (55) and draw controls (55) as ESU earned its first-ever PSAC regular-season title, PSAC championsh­ip and NCAA Division II tournament appearance.

• Monmouth’s Joe Molettiere (Sellersvil­le/Pennridge) pitched six scoreless innings while Dan Long (Sellersvil­le/Pennridge) threw a perfect seventh for his first collegiate save as the Hawks shut out Iona 2-0 in the first game of their doublehead­er last Friday.

Molettiere gave up two hits, walked four and struck out two in earning the victory. Long struck out two in his inning of work on the mound and also went 1-for-1 at the plate. Long went 1-for-4 with a double and run scored as Monmouth dropped the second game 6-5.

• Mason Nadeau (Lansdale/North Penn) went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and two runs scored as the Penn State baseball team claimed an 8-7 walkoff victory over Nebraska last Thursday.

• St. Joseph’s University softball’s Amanda Kulp (Audubon/Methacton) was selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Associatio­n All-Northeast third team.

Kulp, who made the NFCA All-Region third team for the second straight year, set a St. Joseph’s single-season record for stolen bases with 31. An All-Atlantic-10 first-team pick, Kulp led the Hawks in batting average (.357), hits (56) total bases (62), on-base percentage (.416) and had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage

• Georgetown women’s track and field’s Emma Keenan (Gwynedd Valley/ Gwynedd Mercy Academy) earned All-Big East honors in both the 800 meters and 4x800 meter relay.

Keenan took second in the 800 at the Big East Outdoor Championsh­ips (2:08.76) and anchored the Hoyas’ 4x8 relay that won in a time of 8:55.61.

• Penn State women’s track and field’s Tori Gerlach (Perkasie/Pennridge) finished third in the 3,000-meter steeplecha­se at the Big Ten Outdoor Championsh­ips May 13 with a time of 10:19.28. Gerlach will compete in the event in the NCAA East Preliminar­y Round, which begins Thursday in Lexington, Kentucky.

• Kutztown University women’s track and field’s Stephanie Bresadola (Lansdale/North Penn) and Macey Tanseco (Collegevil­le/Perkiomen Valley) earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Associatio­n (USTFCCA) Division II All-Atlantic Region honors.

Bresadola was all-region in the 1,500 meter. She came in a career-best eighth in the event at the PSAC Outdoor. Championsh­ips with a time of 4:51.12.

Tanseco was all-region in the shot put. Tanseco made the on the Division II performanc­e list with her toss of 13.96 meters (45’ 09.75”) at the PSAC championsh­ips, which was the 38th longest in the NCAA this season. The effort earned Tanseco fourth at PSACs and put her third in the KU record book.

Bloomsburg University’s Jessica Quesenberr­y (Blue Bell/Wissahicko­n) also made the All-Atlantic team in the steeplecha­se. Quesenberr­y took second in the 3,000-meter steeplecha­se at PSAC Championsh­ips with a time of 11:07.51.
