Anne Elizabeth “Betty” Schlegel, R.N., 92, of Telford, passed away on May 21, 2017, at Lutheran Community at Telford.

She was the wife of the late William F. Schlegel, who passed away in 1999, and with whom she was united in marriage on Oct. 9, 1948, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Souderton, PA.

Born June 24, 1924, in Hilltown Township, PA, she was the daughter of the late Claude C. and the late Elizabeth E. (nee Schnabel) Ahlum.

Betty was a member of the 1941 graduating class of the Souderton Area High School and a 1946 graduate of the Grand View Hospital School of Nursing.

In addition to being a full-time mother and homemaker, she was a Registered Nurse for many years.

Betty was an active member of Trinity Evangelica­l Lutheran Church in Lansdale, where she assisted in the resettleme­nt of Vietnamese refugees, administer­ed communion, sang in the church choir for more than 60 years, and served on the Worship and Music Committee.

She was active with the church’s Couple’s Club, Ruth Circle, Trinity Singles, Bible Study, Altar Guild, and participat­ed in numerous other activities, while also volunteeri­ng her time in the church office. Betty was a member of the Grand View Hospital Alumni Associatio­n and a former member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Souderton, PA.

Betty is survived by her children W. Brad Schlegel, of Baltimore, MD, and the Rev. Beth A. Schlegel, of Dallastown, PA; and her grandson, David P. Stoverschl­egel, of West Chester, PA. She was preceded in death by her son David Brent Schlegel and her siblings, Woodrow W. Ahlum, Stanley Ahlum, Claude Ahlum, Marian Kratz, and Marvin Ahlum.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 25, at Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, 701 Derstine Ave., Lansdale, PA 19446 and again from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, May 26, at Trinity Evangelica­l Lutheran Church, 1000 W. Main St., Lansdale, PA 19446, where her Service of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in North Wales, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributi­ons in Betty’s name may be made to the Trinity Evangelica­l Lutheran Church Music Fund at the above address, and would be deeply appreciate­d by her family.
