On May 11th, the Triangle Club of Montgomery County held its annual Dannenhower Award Banquet where it recognizes outstanding achievements by high school seniors in Montgomery County.
Each high school is able to nominate one senior who exemplifies the model of the late Judge William F. Dannenhower: excellence in sports, scholarship and service to community.
This year, there were 27 nominees recognized at the banquet and the following student athletes were the top 3:
ALEXIS SCHNEIDER >> Upper Dublin High School $3,000, attending MIT in the Fall.
UCHECHI NWOGWUGWU >> North Penn High School $2,000, attending University of Pennsylvania in the Fall.
ETHAN MILLER >> Upper Merion High School - $1,000, attending Carnegie Mellon in the Fall.
Through the generous donation of local businesses, 4 additional students were recognized and awarded a $500 scholarship: Abigail Goldstein – Germantown Academy - $500, attending Harvard in the Fall; Connor McMenamin – Souderton Area High School - $500, attending Bucknell in the Fall; Carly Munger – Springfield Township High School - $500, attending Georgetown in the Fall; Sonal Tyagi – Spring Ford High School - $500, attending Cornell in the Fall.
“The Triangle Club is pleased to announce this year’s winner of the Dannenhower Award, Alexis Schneider of Upper Dublin High School,” stated Greg Poehlmann, President of the Triangle Club. “Alexis earned varsity letters in 10th through 12th grade for soccer, basketball, lacrosse and pole vaulting. She was ranked in the top 1 percent of her class and had a grade point average of 4.9. She was the recipient of the Prudential Spirit of Community Award for her fundraising efforts to support after school clubs. These are only some of her major accomplishments.”
Poehlmann went on to say, “I wish we could give all of the nominees some assistance toward their secondary educational pursuits. Every year I am convinced there must actually be 25 hours in a day for these students to accomplish what they have achieved. I am also filled with hope for the future when I listen to the biographies of these outstanding young men and women. We are hoping to create more awareness to the Triangle Club’s mission in an endeavor to increase the scope and amounts of our financial awards next year.”
