He dominated with the slider and finished it off with the heater.

With two men on and two outs in the seventh, Ian Kacergis got Kyle Feasby looking with a 3-2 fastball, as Post 255 nailed down its first win of the season, a 2-1 victory over rival Doylestown.

“Starting 0-4 wouldn’t necessarily be nice so it was good to get back to winning,” said a smiling Kacergis, who went the distance for Pennridge, allowing just one run off of three hits while racking up seven strikeouts against just two walks. “Hopefully we can start streaking a little bit.”

Pennridge pushed ahead 2-1 in the top of the seventh when Eddie Kerrigan led off with a single and later raced home to score on a wild pitch. The Tigers (3-5) got two men on in the bottom half,

but Kacergis — like he had done all game — locked things down for Post 255.

“Ian pitched his backside off tonight,” said Pennridge coach Rocky Wright. “He pitched a great game. And he’s capable of that. And I think the other guys seeing that, provides motivation.”

Part of a stellar rotation for Pennridge, Kacergis retired the first seven batters he faced.

Pennridge went up 1-0 in this pitchers’ dual when Luke Nuneviller walked, stole second and then

scored on an error in the second. Doylestown evened things up at one apiece in the third when Jimmy Wiegers belted a double to deep left, scoring Matt Ernst (single).

But Kacergis kept the home team scoreless after that.

“Ian threw a real nice game out there today,” said Doylestown coach Steve Ruane, whose team had won three in a row coming in. “He stayed under control and when he got ahead, he went to that sweeping slider on the outside part of the plate. It was really hard to square up.”

Jack Roland pitched six and a third quality innings

for D-town, allowing no earned runs.

“Jack throws a lot of strikes,” Ruane said. “He’s not gonna be walking a lot of guys, he’s not gonna be blowing people away, but the biggest thing about him is he fights, fights, fights.”

Both teams are in action again Friday night at 6, as Doylestown hosts Warrington and Pennridge is at home against Quakertown.
