Lansdale Legion splits doubleheader

- Staff Report

The Lansdale Legion team split a doubleheader with Hatfield-Towamencin Wednesday night, losing the first game 4-3 and winning the second 10-0.

Game 1 proved to be a pitcher’s duel between Lansdale’s Dom DiCicco and Hatfield’s Zack Moretski. DiCicco allowed three runs over six innings (none after the third) and was only removed due to pitch count rules. Moretski threw a complete game, allowing three runs and striking out eight.

The Cannons jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first behind RBI hits by John Lester and Matt Stevenson. The third run came in the sixth inning on an Eric Beideman squeeze bunt, scoring Lester.

The game ended on a walk-off hit by Moretski.

Lansdale again took an early lead in game 2, and this time never looked back. Lester’s RBI single scoring Tyler Siddal in the first gave the Cannons a 1-0 lead, but the explosion came in a 4-run second inning. Lester and Stevenson again picked up RBI in the inning, and Lester also scored from second base on a wild pitch.

Lansdale (4-5) would then add on five runs in the fourth inning to put the game away. DiCicco, Beideman, Siddal, Danny Harbaugh, and Hunter Evans all picked up RBI in the inning.

Joe Valenti started the game and picked up his third win of the season, as he twirled five 1-hit innings in the shutout. He struck out four and walked two.

The shutout victory is Lansdale’s first since 2011. Hatfield 4, Lansdale 3
