LOWER POTTSGROVE » After being closed for several weeks for remodeling, the Aldi store at 297 Armand Hammer Blvd. has reopened for shoppers.

The renovation of the store in Lower Pottsgrove is part of a $1.6 billion investment plan for the discount grocery retailer, which calls for the remodeling and expansion of more than 1,300 stores across the United States by 2020.

Among the changes to the Lower Pottsgrove store is a “focus on fresh items, including more robust produce, dairy and bakery sections,” according to an Aldi press release.

Aldi stores being renovated also feature open ceilings, natural lighting and environmentally-friendly building materials — such as recycled materials, energy-saving refrigeration and LED lighting, according to the release.

“Whether you’re a current Aldi customer or you haven’t stopped by your local Aldi lately, we invite you to come experience the new Aldi look and see how we’ve expanded our fresh offerings while staying true to our everyday low prices,” said

Bob Grammer, Center Valley division vice president for Aldi. “Customers will recognize our easy-to-shop environment featuring a new modern design and more room for their favorite products.”

Earlier this month, Aldi — which is in the midst of a growth phase — announced plans to ramp up its already aggressive expansion. The company plans to expand

to 2,500 stores nationwide by the end of 2022 as part of a $3.4 billion capital investment. The company currently operates more than 1,600 U.S. stores in 35 states. The move is expected to make Aldi the third largest grocery store by count in the U.S. — serving an estimated 100 million customers per month, according to company information. The expansion is expected to add 25,000 new jobs in stores, warehouses and offices.

“We pioneered a grocery model built around value, convenience, quality and selection and now Aldi is one of America’s favorite and fastest growing retailers,” said Jason Hart, CEO. “We’re growing at a time when other retailers are struggling.”

One of the new locations where Aldi is planning to open a store is at the Limerick Crossing Shopping Center on Ridge Pike in Limerick. A spokesman for the company would not provide information Thursday on a planned opening date for the Limerick location.

As part of the upcoming

opening, Aldi hosted a hiring event Saturday for its Limerick location and current stores in Lower Pottsgrove, Coatesville, East Norriton, Exton and Norristown. Open positions include store associate, shift manager and manager trainee.
