Mower, Trooper mows down KOP

It’s not like the old days for Randy Mower.

Back in his time, the lefthander and North Penn graduate used to live for pitching.

These days, the southpaw would prefer to spend time with family, and occasionally toe the rubber.

Wednesday night at the Lower Providence Township building, Mower and his Perkiomen Valley Twilight League team Trooper topped King of Prussia, 9-2, in a contest played in a tidy 92 minutes.

Mower was his usual reliable self, scattering six hits, including Matt Beyer’s two-run homer in the fourth inning.

Meanwhile, Mower’s mates gave him more than ample support, bunching nine runs from the third through the sixth innings, to make it an easy one.

“It’s good for everybody,” said Mower when the subject of the quickness of the game was brought up. “I have to get home, I have a family to take care of.

“But I really enjoy coming out,

and it’s nice when I’m successful.”

Mower was successful because he kept the ball in play. He ran few deep counts, got the Cannons hitters to put the ball in play, got 10 outs via the ground ball and save for Beyer’s homer, kept the visitors off the scoreboard.

At the same time, Trooper took care of Mower on the scoreboard, jumping on top via Brian Hartsell’s solo homer in the third, scoring three times in the fourth in a frame keyed by Joe Pedorenko’s RBI triple and Will Brownlowe’s RBI double and added the piece de resistance with a threerun fifth that featured Cole Luzins’s two-run homer.

“I’m going to see how it works out down the line,” Mower said when asked if he still see himself pitching two or three years from now. “Right now, I’m taking it a year at a time.”
