Woman facing ID theft charges
Lisa Rappa, 49, allegedly used victim’s identity to steal more than $20,000 from her bank account
A 49-year-old Brooklyn woman is in custody in Montgomery County after allegedly bilking a Lower Salford resident out of more than $20,000, authorities said.
Lisa M. Rappa has been charged with 42 felony criminal counts, including multiple counts of identity theft, forgery, theft, and receiving stolen property.
Lower Salford police Sgt. Cory Moyer said that in April, a township woman reported that she had
been the victim of identity theft and fraud, telling authorities that her personal and financial information had been obtained by thieves and used to conduct a number of transactions at various banks in New York City, ultimately draining more than $20,000 from her account.
After an investigation conducted jointly by Lower Salford police and the New York City Police Department, Rappa was identified as the perpetrator, and a felony arrest warrant was issued in May, Moyer said.
New York City police located and apprehended Rappa in late June, and Lower Salford police went to Brooklyn Supreme Court last week and took custody of Rappa once she waived extradition to Pennsylvania.
Rappa is currently being held at Montgomery County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 bail, records indicate. Moyer said Rappa “will remain (at county jail) until her preliminary hearing,” which is scheduled for July 19 before Franconia District Judge Albert Augustine.
