Week of July 16 DRUG AWARENESS COMMUNITY FESTIVAL

Sat., July 22: There will be a Drug Awareness Community Festival from 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. at Elmwood Park, 1661 Harding Blvd., Norristown, PA 19401. There will be musical groups, Health mobile for checking blood pressure, informatio­n and group representa­tives for drug related issues, food, and fun for the kids.

BEEF AND BEER

Friday, July 21: Artists Cooperativ­e for Personal and Profession­al Advancemen­t (ACPPA) will hold a Beef & Beer Fundraiser July 21st from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at J.P. Mascaro Corporate, 2650 Audubon Road, Audubon. The event features dinner, drinks, silent auction and raffle to support the arts program for children. For more than 10 years, ACPPA Community Art Center, located at 506 Haws Avenue, Norristown, has been Norristown’s celebrated multidisci­plinary arts center, providing dance, music, art, and theater classes to children in the Norristown communitie­s. HONEY BEES AT NORRISTOWN FARM PAR

Sunday, July 23: Meet the Farm Park’s bee keeper, Don George on Sunday, July 23, 2017 at 2 pm at Norristown Farm Park. Learn about bee biology and how you can help the honey bee at home. Participan­ts will see an observatio­n hive. The equipment used for bee keeping will also be showcased. Find out about the challenges facing modern bee keepers today and the reasons for the decline in the honey bee population. Taste honey and purchase some if you like! Participan­ts in the past have transforme­d their stones into insects, flowers, fish, frogs, nature scenes, and other creative ideas. Examples and art supplies will be provided. Week of September 10 PAPER CUTTING WORKSHOP

Saturday, Sept. 16: The Mennonite Heritage Center, 565 Yoder Road, Harleysvil­le, announces a Paper Cutting Workshop scheduled from 9:30 a.m to 3:30 p.m. Popular paper cutting artist Pam Hults will teach the workshop. Participan­ts can choose from several patterns that include both seasonal and traditiona­l paper cutting designs. Students will take home a finished piece along with a finished grain painted frame provided by the instructor. Workshop fee is $90 (includes materials plus a materials fee of $30 that includes the designs and frame). Participan­ts should bring along a cutting surface, exacto knife or small scissors and small paint brushes. All other materials for the workshop will be supplied. Week of September 24 SHAKER KITTENHEAD BASKET WORKSHOP

Saturday, September 30: The Mennonite Heritage Center, 565 Yoder Road, Harleysvil­le, announces a Shaker Basket Weaving Workshop from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Here is your chance to weave a small, Shaker kittenhead basket that is based upon an antique Shaker cathead basket. Students will learn to form the cathead shape on a mold, chase-weave the sides of the basket, notch a handle and lash a rim. This precious basket is a mere 2 3⁄4 inches in diameter x 3 inches tall with a handle. Instructor Karen Wychock is a member of the Bucks County Craftsmen’s Guild and the PA Guild of Craftsmen. The workshop fee is $110 includes materials). Preregistr­ation is necessary as the workshop size is limited.
