SOUDERTON » It’s been a little more than a year since then-11-year-old Molly Worner, her parents and five siblings learned she had been diagnosed with an aggressive grade IV cancerous brain tumor.

This month’s Third Friday, held 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, in the Main, Broad and West Chestnut Street section of Souderton, will include a fundraiser to help support the family, Peggy Kerr, a Third Friday Souderton volunteer, said at the Aug. 7 Souderton Borough Council meeting.

“We’ve been praying for her, but we also wanted to do a community outreach project,” Kerr said, “and get everybody in the community involved to just show our love and support of everything this family’s going through.”

The evening will include a dunk tank, Kerr said while enlisting council members to be among those volunteering to be dunked.

“We have a DJ,” Kerr said. “We’ll be playing some of Molly’s favorite songs. She likes a lot of Christian rock.”

There will also be live music and a community art project, Kerr said. A si-

lent auction will be held in Exhibit B gallery, she said. Harry and Heather Boardman, Exhibit B’s owners, will be the artists of the month.

The fundraiser for the Worners, spearheaded by vendors and community members including Kerr, is one part of the Third Friday activities, which will have a carnival theme with additional games and family fun, Souderton-Telford Main Streets Manager Joanne Coppens said in an email. There will also be a make and take craft for the Indian Valley Arts Foundation at the Main Streets office, she said.

Donations to the Worner fundraiser are not tax deductible and not being collected by the Souderton Business Improvement District or Souderton-Telford Main Streets, Coppens said. Third Friday activities are sponsored by the BID.

Third Friday Souderton information is available at stmainst.org/SBID or the 3rd-Fridays-in-Souderton Facebook page.

Molly’s mother, Catherine Worner, posts on her Facebook page with information about Molly and inspiring messages for families dealing with cancer, council member Dan Houser said.

Another event to support the Worner family will be held Saturday, Sept. 2, when local bands will perform from noon to 5 p.m. in the Souderton Community Park bandshell, Kerr said.

This year, Third Fridays will be followed by a new program to be held in Souderton restaurants over the winter, she said.

“Third Fridays typically ends in October, but we’re hoping to transition right over into another program called Taste of the Town,” Kerr said.

“Third Fridays has boomed,” Mayor John Reynolds said. “There’s an awful lot of people that participate, an awful lot of people that work on it, but there’s also an awful lot of people that just enjoy walking around downtown and seeing everything that’s going on.”

“It’s actually a lot of fun throwing parties for the town,” Kerr said.
