Christian Patrick’s 8-yard touchdown run with 3 minutes, 56 seconds to go lifted Quakertown to a 16-13 victory over Souderton Area Friday night in the “309 Bowl.”
Patrick’s score, followed by a two-point conversion run by Michael Terra, provided the winning points, and a fourth-down stop by the Panther defense preserved a 2-0 start for Quakertown. Souderton, dropping to 1-1, took a 13-8 lead with 9:24 to go on a four-yard run by Jeremy Tammaro but the Panthers came back in the final minutes.
Quakertown led 8-6 at the half.
Big Red began the game by driving 78 yards in nine plays, settling for a 26-yard field goal off the foot of William Leyland.
The Panthers reached the end zone on their first possession, scoring on a 28-yard run by quarterback Brad Bryan. Quakertown then went for two, converting on a run by Matt Fugitt, making it 8-3.
Souderton again had a sustained drive in the second quarter, this one again going 78 yards, but once more had to settle for a field goal. The 28-yarder by Leyland sliced the margin to 8-6.
The Panthers threatened at the end of the half but a last-second pass into the end zone was intercepted by Troy Mokluk.
