John L. Hurst Jr.

John L. Hurst, Jr., 85, born November 1, 1931, passed away suddenly on September 5, 2017 after a brief illness. He is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Joyce A. (Neener) Hurst, and his loving son, John A. Hurst, as well as his niece, nephew, and their children and grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, John L. Hurst Sr. and Edna R. Miller, and his sister, Patricia A. DiStefano.

A mechanical design engineer by trade, John loved reading, politics, WWII history, all types of music, technology, and caring for the family’s rescue Boxer (Cash). He was a devoted North Penn School District activities fan, attending every football game for over 20 years, as well as many basketball and North Penn Marching Knights events. He was a daily fixture at Yum Yum Donuts in Lansdale, where he could be found sipping on coffee and having conversations with the staff and other patrons most mornings. He also greatly enjoyed spending time with his young friends in Doylestown most Friday and Saturday nights.

His family would like to thank his friends at Yum Yum and especially his “crew” in Doylestown for being such an important part of his life. We would also like to extend our deepest gratitude and love to our wonderful neighbors, friends, the UGPD, the VMSC of Lansdale, and the staff at both Lansdale Abington and Abington Memorial Hospitals.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 10-11am at the William R. May Funeral Home, 142 N. Main St., North Wales, PA 19454 on Saturday, September 16, 2017 with the funeral service to follow at 11am. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s name to Adopt A Boxer Rescue, P.O. Box 154, Olyphant, PA 18447, the charity of your choice, or honor John’s memory by simply doing something kind for someone else.
