Mycek making impact at Dickinson
Please forgive Emily Mycek if she doesn’t celebrate her goals. She’s just not used to doing it. The Methacton grad and Dickinson College freshman has scored three times for the Red Devils in the team’s first seven games, including a pair of gamewinners.
She just doesn’t have the celebration part down yet.
“My teammates keep teasing me, telling me it’s OK if I celebrate,” the freshman defender said. “A couple of my goals have come on corners, and I’ve just tried to tip in the passes.
“I think most of the credit should go to the passer.”
Mycek began playing field hockey in second grade, playing alongside her friend Olivia Hoover on a team started by Hoover’s father.
Her Warriors career was enhanced by her appearances in showcases in Arizona, California and Florida.
But Mycek was also mindful of the potential adjustment to playing in the collegiate ranks.
“I was worried about coming in as a freshman, so I put in a lot
of work during the preseason,” she said. “I’m real excited to be a big part of the team.
“In high school I was never a big part of the offense.”
But Mycek has been a huge part of the offense for the Devils.
She has scored three times, and two of those goals have been gamewinners, including the game-winner against Swarthmore (a 1-0 victory) and goals in the first two games of the season (wins over Frostburg and Bridgewater).
Off the field, Mycek is also hard at work, presently deciding on her major (right now it’s between Biology and BioChemistry).
“Every day is very different,” she said. “But I know the student part comes first.
“We’re starting to have exams but my teammates are helping me study.
“It’s really great having teammates who are willing to help you with your studies.”
Mycek said she’s also been able to keep in touch with some of her old Methacton teammates,

particularly Hoover, who is a year behind Mycek and a Warriors senior.
“I keep in touch with a few of my old teammates , and they’ve reached out and congratulated me,” Mycek said. “I’m hoping to get back and watch a few of their games.”
Right now, her primary focus is on her grades.
“It’s been a lot of work, and the professors go at a quicker pace,” Mycek said, “but it’s a lot more work.
“But I’m getting the hang of it.”
Now if she can just do a little extra work on those goal celebrations.
