Invasion of the Body Snatchers: (Available on Amazon) The original 1956sci-fi horror film from Don Siegel and starring Kevin McCarthy is a classic. Hysterical people in a small California town (filmed in Sierra Madre) begin accusing their loved ones of being emotionless impostors and not being themselves. At first, Dr. Miles Bennell (McCarthy) doesn’t believe it, but the truth comes out. Plant-like extraterrestrials have invaded Earth and are replicating the townspeople in giant seed “pods.” Who can forget McCarthy’s character screaming at the end, “They’re here already! You’re next! You’re next!” when he realizesL.A. is filled with “pod people.” The film has been remade twice, a not-bad 1978 version and a vapid 1997 one.

Acceptable Risk: (Available today on Acorn) Elaine Cassidy stars in a thriller that follows a womanwho comes to realize how little she knew about her husband before he was murdered. Hersuspicions around his death lead her to confront aconspiracy of corporate, police and political interests in which herfamily may be complicit.

NOVA — Secrets of the Forbidden City: (9 p.m. Wednesday on PBS - check your local listings) The Forbidden City is the world’s biggest and most extravagant palace complex built. For five centuries, it was the power center of imperial China and survived wars, revolution, fires and earthquakes. How did the Ming Emperor’s workforce construct itsnearly 1,000 buildings andtemples ina decade? To find answers, NOVA joins a team of master craftsmen who build a scale model of apalace in a seismic lab, then subject it to simulated earthquakes to shake out the secrets.
Freakish: (Available Wednesday on Hulu) In Season 2 of the horror-comedy series, the high school students are still trapped inside the school and battling mutants after a deadly explosion. They find their relationships tested when a new group of survivors arrives.
The Eleven: (9 p.m. Thursday on A&E) Docuseries follows investigators Lise Olsen and Fred Paige as they reexamine the murders of11 teenage girls in Galveston County, Texas in the 1970s after discovering a confession letter from an inmate and convicted murderer, Edward Harold Bell. Theseries will attempt to solve the mystery behind the murders. A second episode airs at 10 p.m.
Great Performances — She Loves Me: (9 p.m. Friday on PBS - check your local listings) The filmed version of the Roundabout Theatre Co.’s acclaimed production of “She Loves Me,” starring Tony winners Laura Benanti, Jane Krakowski and Gavin Creel, as well as Tony nominee Zachary Levi.
Tracey Ullman’s Show: (11 p.m. Friday on HBO) Second season of Emmy-nominated sketch comedy series.
Red Oaks: (Available Friday on Amazon) Third and final season of comedy set in a New Jersey country club in the 1980s, starring Craig Roberts as David, who is chasing his dream to become a director. Also stars Paul Reiser, Richard Kind and Jennifer Grey.
1922: (Available Friday on Netflix) Adaptation of Stephen King story about a man who conspires with his son to kill his wife, stars Thomas Jane, Neal McDonough and Molly Parker.
The Day I Met El Chap o—The Kate del Castillo Story: (Available Friday on Netflix) This three-part documentary is the biographical account of Mexican actress Kate del Castillo that details what led to the infamous meeting between one of the world’s most notorious drug lords, a Hollywood star and one of Mexico’s most famousTV actresses.
One of Us: (Available Friday on Netflix) Documentary from Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady (“Jesus Camp”) follows three people who have decided to leave Hasidic Judaism.
Wheelman: (Available Friday on Netflix) Frank Grillo stars as a getaway driver who races to escape after a bank heist goes wrong.
The Watcher in the Woods: (8 p.m. Saturday on Lifetime) Anjelica Huston stars in a remake ofDisney’s 1980 horror film.
George Michael — Freedom: (9 p.m. Saturday on Showtime) Documentary covering the span of pop star’s career,with focus on the making of his acclaimed album “Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1.” The film is narrated by the star, who was heavily involved in the making of the documentary before his passing.
Too Funny to Fail: (Available Saturday on Hulu) Documentary examines the rise and fall of the short-lived TV series “The Dana Carvey Show,” which, in retrospect, boasted one of TV’s greatest comedy casts/writing staffs of all time (including Louis C.K., Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, Robert Smigel and Charlie Kaufman).
