Franconia Township needs a change

- Brian LaTorre Franconia

It is time for a change in Franconia Township. We need a leader for Franconia Township that is willing to be held accountable and a leader that will fight for transparency in local government. A leader that has the knowledge and experience required for the job. I believe that Doug Killough is that person.

In 2014, the Franconia Board of Supervisors revealed that they improperly transferred $1.3 million in township funds from 2009-2013, moving funds that were intended for open space in order to cover up the deficit that the township was incurring during that time period. The financial difficulties faced by the township led to the layoffs of 10 township employees, including a third of the police force.

After the revelation, the board of supervisors promised that a financial board made up of residents would be organized to make sure that Franconia would not find itself in the same financial trouble again. After the 2015 election that idea was set aside, and to this day, no such financial board exists and our leaders have not been held accountable.

Doug will bring accountability and transparency to Franconia by posting itemized financial statements and audits online for the public to view anytime they wish. He also plans to make board meetings more accessible by televising them on local public television like neighboring communities already do. This would allow elderly residents and residents who work in the evenings to stay informed on the important issues facing the community.

Doug has a long history of public service that he will bring with him to the board. Doug not only served in the Army, but also serves his community as a public high school teacher. Doug, who has lived in Franconia for the past 20 years and raised his children in Franconia, also has served on the township’s parks & recreations board for the past 18 years.

On Tuesday Nov. 7, it’s important that we bring back accountability and transparency by electing Doug Killough for Franconia Board of Supervisors.
