Joan Al­bert Zeller of Lans­dale

Joan Al­bert Zeller of Lans­dale, PA, for­merly of Wil­low Grove, passed away on Thurs­day, Nov. 2, at the age of 87.

Born in Philadel­phia, PA, the daugh­ter of Grace (Best) and Ge­orge Al­bert, she mar­ried her high school sweet­heart, Richard Zeller, in 1954.

Joan liked to tell the story of how they met at church and dated for seven years be­fore mar­ry­ing. Joan went on to earn a Bach­e­lor of Science de­gree in home eco­nom­ics from Drexel Univer­sity. There, she was an ac­tive mem­ber of the Sigma, Sigma, Sigma soror­ity and con­tin­ued those friend­ships through­out her life.

Her ca­reer started as a di­eti­cian in the Me­dia School Dis­trict.

When Dick was drafted, they moved to Ok­la­homa, where she trav­eled the state work­ing for Pub­lic Ser­vice of Ok­la­homa, teach­ing and demon­strat­ing new elec­tric ap­pli­ances. This led to her po­si­tion with the Meal-Eze Corp., pi­o­neer­ing mi­crowave cook­ing.

Her last po­si­tion was with the Spring­field School Dis­trict, Mont­gomery County, teach­ing Home Eco­nom­ics in the high school for 18 years be­fore her re­tire­ment.

Joan en­joyed spend­ing her sum­mers at their home in Ocean City, NJ, with her four grand­chil­dren. She and Richard also en­joyed fre­quent travel, us­ing their time shares in Florida, Can­cun, Mex­ico and Man­hat­tan, NY.

Af­ter mov­ing to Brit­tany Pointe Es­tates, Lans­dale, in 2006, Joan vol­un­teered for many or­ga­ni­za­tions and be­came known as “The Cookie Lady.”

She is sur­vived by her hus­band of 63 years, G. Richard Zeller, daugh­ters Ch­eryl Zeller Doyle (Joseph), Deb­o­rah Zeller Reese (Don), sis­ter Linda Al­bert Feld­weiser (Wal­ter), sis­terin-law Joyce Zeller Pittman (Von), grand­chil­dren, Grace Doyle Ye­gen (Can), Christo­pher Reese, Michael Reese, Emily Doyle and great­grand­daugh­ter Ayla Marie Ye­gen, and neph­ews Ge­of­frey Al­bert Bolin­ski (Ali­son) and Dan Pittman (Kelly).

Joan con­tin­ued to give by do­nat­ing her body to science for re­search and ed­u­ca­tion.

Joan loved liv­ing at Brit­tany Pointe, re­peat­edly telling friends and fam­ily it was one of the best de­ci­sions she made. There­fore, in lieu of flow­ers, do­na­tions may be given to: Acts Legacy Foun­da­tion, 375 Mor­ris Road, P.O. Box 90, West Point, PA 19486, memo: BPE Samaritan Fund.

A Me­mo­rial Ser­vice will be held at the Brit­tany Pointe Au­di­to­rium, 1001 Val­ley Forge Road at 11 a.m. Satur­day, Nov. 25. Greet the fam­ily from 10 to 11 a.m.
