Joan Albert Zeller of Lansdale, PA, formerly of Willow Grove, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 2, at the age of 87.

Born in Philadelph­ia, PA, the daughter of Grace (Best) and George Albert, she married her high school sweetheart, Richard Zeller, in 1954.

Joan liked to tell the story of how they met at church and dated for seven years before marrying. Joan went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in home economics from Drexel University. There, she was an active member of the Sigma, Sigma, Sigma sorority and continued those friendship­s throughout her life.

Her career started as a dietician in the Media School District.

When Dick was drafted, they moved to Oklahoma, where she traveled the state working for Public Service of Oklahoma, teaching and demonstrat­ing new electric appliances. This led to her position with the Meal-Eze Corp., pioneering microwave cooking.

Her last position was with the Springfiel­d School District, Montgomery County, teaching Home Economics in the high school for 18 years before her retirement.

Joan enjoyed spending her summers at their home in Ocean City, NJ, with her four grandchild­ren. She and Richard also enjoyed frequent travel, using their time shares in Florida, Cancun, Mexico and Manhattan, NY.

After moving to Brittany Pointe Estates, Lansdale, in 2006, Joan volunteere­d for many organizati­ons and became known as “The Cookie Lady.”

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, G. Richard Zeller, daughters Cheryl Zeller Doyle (Joseph), Deborah Zeller Reese (Don), sister Linda Albert Feldweiser (Walter), sisterin-law Joyce Zeller Pittman (Von), grandchild­ren, Grace Doyle Yegen (Can), Christophe­r Reese, Michael Reese, Emily Doyle and greatgrand­daughter Ayla Marie Yegen, and nephews Geoffrey Albert Bolinski (Alison) and Dan Pittman (Kelly).

Joan continued to give by donating her body to science for research and education.

Joan loved living at Brittany Pointe, repeatedly telling friends and family it was one of the best decisions she made. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, donations may be given to: Acts Legacy Foundation, 375 Morris Road, P.O. Box 90, West Point, PA 19486, memo: BPE Samaritan Fund.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Brittany Pointe Auditorium, 1001 Valley Forge Road at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 25. Greet the family from 10 to 11 a.m.
