Girls bowling

SNOW ROLLER » North Penn placed 5th in qualifying and finished in 3rd place overall in the Snow Roller tournament held at Leisure lanes in Lancaster Saturday.

North Penn girls swept the first round, ousting Sellinsgro­ve 2-0, moving on to face the top-seeded team Cedar Crest.

Cedar Crest won game 1 (160-124), North Penn won game 2( 197-174) forcing a game 3. A back and forth match was finally won by Cedar Crest( 171-159).

Hempfield went on to defeat Cedar Crest for the tournament championsh­ip.

The only other local girls team representa­tive was Pennridge including high series from Angela Kauffman (464) and Liz Detweiler (460). Boys bowling

SNOW ROLLER » In the boys division other than the eventual champion being Northern Lebanon the excitement of the day was created by Pennridge”s Zach Valentine rolling a first game perfect 300, onto a 698 series placing him fifth in the all-star awards.

North Penn boys in contention the entire day just fell short with some great team bowling led by Colin Nast with a 660 series although teammate James Carnal tied for the second highest single game tournament score with a 278. DUALS » Wiss ended the day 2-3 with wins over Upper Moreland (42-38), the first over the Golden Bears in 9 years and Upper Darby (4930), a perennial top team in the District. The Trojans lost to Father Judge (4930), Northeast (44-30) and Pennsbury (42-31).

Outstandin­g individual performanc­es were turned in by Co-captain Nick Senderling, who went 4-0 on the day. Kevin Salmon and Mark Thompson also both went 4-1 on the day. Freshman Matthew Fritz (3-2 on the day) had the most exciting match of the day down 7-0 to a tough opponent from Upper Darby, stormed all the way back to win the match 18-8. Charlie Brammer (3-2 on the day) picked up his 50th career win.
