Students celebrate Catholic Schools Week in style
Holy Cross Regional Catholic School celebrated Catholic Schools Week from Jan. 29 to Feb. 2 with a busy schedule of meaningful and fun activities.
Monday was Community Day. Students brought in cans of soup to donate to the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry on the grounds of St. Eleanor Parish, and ultimately collected more than 500 cans in this year’s “Soup-er Bowl!”
Tuesday was Nation Day. Kids wore their school uniform with red, white and blue Accessories. Girl/Boy Scouts wore their uniforms. In the “Wax Museum” program, each costumed 7th grader presented a biography as a famous person, living or deceased, who has made a positive difference in the world. Two Veterans of the Armed Forces were special guests at a patriotic assembly. They shared stories about serving our country and then solemnly folded the large American flag with a few students.
Wednesday was Vocation Day. The students collected items such as games, puzzles, toiletries, and socks for the retired nuns living at Camilla Hall in Immaculata. The items were organized into 26 “Sunshine Boxes” and second grade students crafted special cards for the Sisters. Professional group Hip Hop Fundamentals demonstrated Hip Hop-style dance moves, inviting many students onto the stage to perform for their peers.
Thursday was Student Appreciation Day. Student Council organized a competitive Dodge Ball Tournament. Then, students were treated to a complimentary lunch from Wendy’s, paid for by Home and School. Song and dance filled the afternoon when the students performed in the Talent Show.
Friday was Teacher Appreciation Day. A special brunch was provided by the Home and School Association and catered by Aquilant.
