Dave Lotier got to relax a little bit Saturday afternoon, checking out some Olympic ski jumping on TV.

It’s mid February, but it might as well be early August. He can’t wait to talk some football.

“The players are hungry, the fan base is hungry, I’m hungry,” he said of his desire to “build something special” at Methacton High.

Lotier will be officially signed in as Methacton’s new head football coach on Feb. 26 and he’s planning on meeting with the players at the beginning of March.

The schedule is already set — an opener against Truman followed by rival Pottsgrove.

“We’re coming in with a lot of energy, a lot of excitement,” Lotier said of he and his staff.

Lotier, a Souderton Area grad, has coached on the high school and college level. Most recently, he was the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator at Valley Forge Military Academy and College.

Lotier had also been an assistant coach for Ursinus, serving as the defensive backs coach and later working with the running backs. He served as a graduate assistant at East Stroudsburg University for two seasons, working with multiple positions

on both sides of the ball.

Back at his alma mater, Lotier also spent two seasons as the defensive backs coach and special teams coordinator at Souderton,

working under Ed Gallagher.

In his playing days, the Big Red grad spent five seasons for East Stroudsburg as a standout defensive back for the Warriors.

“I’m a defensive guy. We’re gonna be a defensiveminded group,” Lotier said. “We wanna outwork people.

We wanna see 11 green shirts swarming to the football.”

Offensively, the Warriors look to take advantage of what the defense is giving them while expertly mixing in RPO’s (run-pass options).

Methacton’s had a rough go of it in the 2000’s, making Lotier that much more excited about the opportunity to turn things around.

He likes what stellar programs like Perkiomen Valley and Spring-Ford have done for the Pioneer Athletic Conference, including making runs in the postseason. And he hopes to do similar things with the Warriors.

“We wanna build something special,” Lotier said.
