Souderton’s Ahart a man about town
Big Red senior going places; divers get it done at districts
Souderton Area’s Wesley Ahart knows all about making it to states. In a couple different arenas. As a member of the Future Business Leaders of America, the Big Red senior has earned his way into an elite group.
“I just made a video to compete in that competition and I made states for that video too,” Ahart said with a smile down on the deck, following his stellar performance Friday at the District 1-3A Championships at North Penn.
Interested in advertising, marketing and art, Ahart is headed to Pitt next year. But first he’s headed to Bucknell for the PIAA Championships next month.
”I’m definitely in a better position. This year, I finished second at districts and last year I finished eighth,” Ahart said Friday night. “I’m really gonna work on my higher degree-of-difficulty dives and clean them up so I have something to work with.”
Point producers
Even though they narrowly missed the cut for states, several divers still gave their teams a head start going into next week’s swim portion of the District One Championships.
In Class 3A, North Penn’s Rachael Fisher placed ninth for the Knights, earning nine points, and Wissahickon’s Tess Klugherz was right behind in 10th, getting seven points.
Kelly Regan of Upper Dublin placed 12th for five points and Abington’s Celia Henke was right behind in 13th, good for four points.
The swimming events will be held Friday and Saturday at La Salle University.
Knights aiming high
The North Penn girls will be going for a six-peat at the District 1-3A Championships, the boys pushing for back-to-back titles and four in the last five years.
They like what they saw at the Suburban One League Continental Conference Championships.
“There are a lot of standout athletes in here and a lot of wonderful swims
that took place. This conference, mixed with Upper Dublin’s conference (SOL American), that makes up the majority of the District One teams,” Knights coach Jeff Faikish said.
“District One is highly represented at the state level, so you know that this is no joke. Some kids were rested (for SOL’s), a lot of kids were not rested. And the competition level was still just as high. So we’re looking forward to districts.” And it’s just days away. “I’m not gonna lie — it’s nerve racking. But I hope that we stay the course,” Faikish said.
