GA grad Guers named NE10 Player of Year

Saint Anselm junior averaging 21.8 points per game on the season

Saint Anselm junior Tim Guers (Germantown Academy) capped off a sterling regular season when he was named NE10 Player of the Year on Monday. Guers averaged 21.8 points per game, 7.5 rebounds and 5.3 assists

and failed to reach doublefigu­re scoring just once in 28 games. Jimmy Murray (Plymouth

Whitemarsh), a junior at Moravian, scored eight points Saturday as the Greyhounds made history while winning the Landmark Conference tournament title for the third straight year. Moravian won its 20th game for the first time in program history, with Murray as one of its top scorers at 17.4 ppg. He’s also tied for the team lead with 41 steals. Murray also added 24 points with three steals in Moravian’s 96-91 semifinal win over Drew on Wednesday.

West Chester clinched the PSAC East title and finished its regular season on Wednesday. Tyrell Long (Bishop McDevitt) posted 23 points while Matt Penecale (Abington) had 10 points and six rebounds, Steve Smith (La Salle) six points and Evan-Eric Longino (Germantown Academy) five points. Long earned PSAC East Player of the Week on Monday.

DeSales sophomore Tracy Simsick (Souderton) had 24 points, five rebounds and four

assists in the Bulldogs’ 74-69 win over Eastern on Wednesday. Luke Connaghan (Wood) added 12 points and six rebounds. In a 74-59 loss to Misericord­ia on Saturday, Connaghan had nine points, Simsick scored four and freshman Mike Bealer (Souderton)

had six points. Kutztown’s Max Wagner (Pennridge) and Anthony

Lee (Abington) had strong showings for the Bears last week. In a Wednesday 10291 loss to East Stroudsbur­g, Lee had 28 points and 10 rebounds with four assists, three steals and two blocks while Wagner posted 11 points and four boards. On Saturday in an 85-62 win over Lock Haven, Wagner had 17 points and nine boards while Lee contribute­d 14 points and eight rebounds.

Women’s basketball

Jefferson junior Jess Kaminski (Archbishop Wood)

had 16 points, 14 rebounds, two assists and four steals in a 62-50 win over Holy Family on Saturday. Rachel Day (Wood) scored 10 points with seven rebounds and four assists on her Senior Day while junior Alynna Williams (Plymouth Whitemarsh)

had seven points and three assists, redshirt junior

Erin Maher (North Penn)

had 10 points and sophomore Caitlyn Cunningham (Mount St Joseph) had six

points.

Williams had 23 points in a 70-56 win over GoldeyBeac­om on Wednesday while Kaminski posted a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds and Day contribute­d 10 points.

Chestnut Hill edged USciences 80-77 in a key CSAC game on Saturday. For Chestnut Hill, senior Vicky Tumasz (North

Penn) scored 13 points with six rebounds while freshman Cassie Sebold (Wood) had 10 points, six rebounds and four assists. USciences got a career-high 18 points from freshman Irisa Ye

(North Penn), along with six rebounds. Freshman Jess Huber (North Penn)

had 10 points off the bench while Laura Trisch (Wood) chipped in three points and five boards and sophomore Jordan Vitelli (CB South)

had nine points. Villanova senior Alex Louin (Mount St Joseph)

had 13 points with four rebounds and three assists in a Friday 70-43 win over Providence then celebrated her Senior Day with 12 points, nine rebounds and three assists in a 55-48 win against Creighton.

Tufts forward Erica DeCandido (Gwynedd

Mercy Academy) had 10 points in the Jumbos’ 4440 loss to Amherst on Sunday in the NESCAC final. In the semifinals, DeCandido contribute­d 17 points with nine rebounds and three assists in a 60-49 win over Bowdoin.

Women’s lacrosse

Temple got a lot of production from its local contingent in Sunday’s 18-15

win over Lafayette. Freshman Jen Rodzewich (Pennridge) netted her first college goal, then added four more for the Owls while fellow freshman Jackie Cerchio (Methacton) collected her first career hat-trick. Both players now stand at five goals and two assists on the season.

Baseball

Monmouth sophomore Danny Long (Pennridge)

had a hit and picked up the save in the Hawks’ 9-8 win over Penn State on Saturday. Joe Molettiere (Pennridge) got the start for Monmouth and threw 3.1 innings.

Long went 4-for-8 in Monmouth’s first three games this season with a triple, home run and RBI.

In Saturday’s game, Penn State’s Mason Nadeau (North Penn) had a two-run triple. Nadeau has started all six games in the outfield for the Nittany Lions but has just two hits so far this season.

Virginia freshman Alex Tappen (Wissahicko­n) has started all seven games for the Cavaliers this season. Tappen, who has been playing right field for UVA, is hitting .276 with eight hits, five runs and five RBI.

Lehigh’s Blake Rapoport (Wissahicko­n) and Chris

Kersey (North Penn) have been consistent offensive players in the Hawks’ first seven games. Rapoport, a sophomore, has five hits and four RBI in 16 at-bats, a .313 average, while Kersey, a senior, has driven in three runs on six hits with a .273 average.
