Jay R. Moyer, age 70, of Harleysvil­le, passed away peacefully, after a long battle with cancer, on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at Grand View Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Suzette, with whom he shared over 43 years of marriage.

Born in Sellersvil­le on April 20, 1947, he was a son of Eileen Enright Moyer and the late Jay Wesley Moyer.

After graduating Souderton Area High School, Jay enlisted in the United States Air Force serving during the Vietnam War. After serving in the United States Air Force, Jay attended Syracuse University, where he earned his BA in Political Science and later, did his Post Graduate Studies at Temple University.

Jay served as Chairman of the Montgomery County Investment Board: Treasurer of Montgomery County: Area Operations Director of PA Dept. of Revenue, Bureau of Collection­s and Tax Payer Services; Deputy Secretary for Local Government Affairs, PA Dept. of Environmen­tal Protection; Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission; Regional Representa­tive to Deputy Secretary, US Dept. of Education, Region III; State Representa­tive, PA House of Representa­tives 70th Legislativ­e District; and Small Business Ombudsman, Pennsylvan­ia Department of Environmen­tal Protection.

He was very committed to his community, serving on the Lower Salford Community Board of Supervisor­s, Montgomery County Park Board, former Souderton Area School Board Director, member and past president of the Harleysvil­le Jaycees and Harleysvil­le Lions Club, founder and Chairman of the Lower Salford Youth Associatio­n, former member of the Board of Directors of the Harleysvil­le Senior Adult Activities Center and Community Center.

Jay was a lifelong resident of Lower Salford Township. He enjoyed antiquing, collecting rare books, watches and pottery. He spent many Saturdays attending auctions and looking for “treasures”. Jay loved walking 2 miles everyday in his community and the surroundin­g communitie­s. He recently took up playing golf, and spent time in his back yard pool swimming with his family and friends.

In addition to his wife, Suzette, he is survived by his daughter Christine Suzanne Schmidt and her husband Michael; grandchild­ren Abra Jane and Elliott James Schmidt; siblings Philip Moyer, Mary Bencker, Anne Cinque, Michael Moyer and Mark Moyer.

He was preceded in death by his grandson Gabriel Joseph Schmidt and his sister Evonne Tanner.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 11 AM on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, 40 Spring Mount Road, Schwenksvi­lle, PA., where the family will share words of remembranc­e at 10:45 AM. Interment will take place in St. John Neumann Cemetery.
