State swimming, wrestling pushed back a day

- Staff reports

Friday’s adverse weather, which included high winds and snowfall, have significantly affected the District I swimming championship meet and the South East wrestling regional tournaments.

The swimming championships had been scheduled to take place Friday and Saturday but the weather caused all of Friday’s events to be wiped out. Now, the meet will go Saturday and Sunday and will still be held at La Salle University in Philadelphia.

Per a memo released by District I and posted on the district website, Saturday’s events will begin with boys’ AA and AAA registration at 8:30 a.m. and competition starting at 10:30 a.m. Girls’ AA and AA registration will begin at 1:30 with the second half of the first day’s events beginning at 3:30 p.m.

Sunday will follow a similar schedule with the boys starting competition at 10:30 a.m. and the girls’ second session kicking off at 4 p.m.

Spectators will be admitted 90 minutes before the start of each of the four sessions, according to the district website.

For wrestling, the South East AAA tournament will begin at 9:00 a.m. Saturday at Oxford High School. The event will be held with limited breaks as to try and condense all matches into a single day and pa-wrestling.com anticipates championship rounds to begin around 6 p.m.

Any wrestlers who exceed a five-match per day limit on Saturday in wrestlebacks would complete any addition matches on

Sunday starting at 9 a.m.

Likely, the third and fifth-place matches will take plae pon Sunday.

The AA South East regional held at Wilson West Lawn began as scheduled on Friday and is expected to continue as planned on Saturday.
