SPECIAL EVENTS GRAND MARSHAL’S BALL
Saturday, March 3: The annual Grand Marshal’s Ball for the Saint Patrick’s Parade in Conshohocken will take place on March 3rd beginning at 6 p.m. This gala event will take place at the Norristown Elmwood Park Zoo Banquet Hall on Harding Boulevard. Bobbie Kelly Thompson Liberace will be honored as the 2018 Grand Marshal for the Conshohocken St. Patrick’s Parade that will take place on March 10th. Norristown Fire Chief Tom O’Donnell, last year’s grand marshal, will hand over the Traditional Walking Stick and present Bobbie with the 2018 parade sash. Tickets are now on sale for $40. PATRICIAN SOCIETY OPEN HOUSE FOR JOE MACCOLINI
Friday, March 9: The Patrician Society will host an open house to celebrate the retirement of executive director Joe Maccolini, who’s been with the nonprofit for 36 years. The open house will be held at 703 Green Street, Norristown, from 11 p.m. to 1 p.m.
DAVID FRIDAY MEMORIAL NIGHT
Saturday, April 14: Friends and family invite everyone to celebrate the life of David Friday beginning at 7 p.m. at Screwballs, 216 W. Beidler Road, King of Prussia. All proceeds benefit the David Friday Memorial Scholarship Funds, and checks should be made out to Pope John Paul II High school. Organizers ask that attendees wear green and gold in memory of David Friday. Donations will be accepted at the door.
UNTIL MARCH 17 PROM DRESS PALOOZA
Until March 17: The First Baptist Church of Norristown is receiving donations for their annual Prom Dress Palooza! All new and gently-used dresses, shoes, and accessories may be bagged and dropped off at the church’s front door at any point prior to March 17, 2018. NORRISTOWN GARDEN CLUB SPONSORS SCHOLARSHIPS
Until April 30, 2018: The Norristown Garden Club is offering scholarships to residents of Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery or Philadelphia counties in Pennsylvania enrolled in full-time, horticulture-related programs. Non-residents will be considered if attending a full-time, horticulture-related program at an academic institution in the above Pennsylvania counties. Horticulture-related fields may include: Agriculture Education, Agronomy, Botany, Conservation, Environmental Concerns, Floriculture, Horticulture, Land Management, Landscape Architecture, and Plant Pathology. Sunday, March 4: at the Montgomery CountyNorristown Public Library, 1001 Powell Street, Norristown, Naturally Sharp, Drexel University’s vocal jazz ensemble, will perform at 2 p.m. Naturally Sharp is a select group of 16 singers, chosen by audition in the fall from the University Chorus. Naturally Sharp performs “anything that swings,” doing a variety of pieces from the past 100 years with a three-piece back-up band. Please register online here.

HEALTH SCREENINGS
Sunday, March 4: St. Patrick’s Parish, DeKalb and Chestnut streets in Norristown, will host free health and dental screenings on Sunday, March 4, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the parish hall (entrance on Chestnut Street).
The screenings are free and open to the public. Dental, vision, physical therapy and prenatal screenings will be available from medical professionals and volunteers.
BINGO
Friday, March 9: Bi-Monthly Bingo Night Open to the general public with cash prizes and refreshments. BULLYING PREVENTION AND SOCIAL MEDIA SAFETY
Saturday, March 10: Penn Foundation’s Family Autism Center will host a workshop entitled “Bullying Prevention and Social Media Safety” on Saturday, March 10, 2018 from 9:00 – 10:30 am in Penn Foundation’s Loux Healthcare Center - Univest Community Room (807 Lawn Avenue, Sellersville). The cost is $25 per person or couple. This workshop is designed for parents/caregivers of children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders. Parents/caregivers will learn about different forms of bullying such as School Bullying and Cyberbullying. The workshop will cover information regarding victims of bullying and the effects on one’s health. In addition, discussion will include how parents can help their children if they suspect he/ she is being bullied; how to advocate for their child; and resources surrounding how to start a conversation about bullying. Week of March 11 CELTIC HARP CONCERT
Sunday, March 11: Musician Renee Arner will play some special music on the Celtic harp in honor of the St. Patty’s season. She will be accompanied by a guitarist. Learn about the history of the Celtic harp and what makes a tune Celtic. For some of the songs any children that are present will be invited to dance. At the end of the concert participants can try the harp. Meet in the Salt Wing of the barn, adjacent to the park office. The suggested donation is $5.00 per person. MORNING BIRD WALK
Tuesday, March 13: The northern migration of waterfowl has begun. The park’s wetland areas, creeks, and the pond will be the focus on this morning bird walk led by park staff. HARLEM WIZARDS AT NORRISTOWN AREA HIGH SCHOOL
Friday, March 16: The Norristown Area Education Foundation (NAEF) will host the Harlem Wizards’ “Trick Hoops & Alley Oops,” basketball-fueled entertainment at Norristown Area High School on March 16. West Norriton Chick-fil-A is a sponsoring a basketball throwing contest at halftime, where a handful of raffle ticket holders will compete in shooting hoops for free Chick-fil-A food for a year. Those in uniform will automatically earn a raffle ticket and then have the opportunity to purchase additional raffle tickets along with the rest of the crowd. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m., with the show starting at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available online at HarlemWizards. com, the administration building, 402 N. Current needs include canned veggies, fruits, soups & meats, baby foods and juices, pasta sauces, laundry detergent, dish soap, personal care items and diapers for babies and adults.
