Construction is expected to last five to six weeks, starting Monday, on several blocks of North Line Street in Lansdale.

Line Street will be closed from Oak Drive to East Main Street as the North Penn Water Authority works on replacing an old water main with a new eight-inch line, according to the borough and water authority.

Mobilization and construction began Monday at the intersection of Line Street and Oak Drive, and will head south toward East Main Street, Once the water main installation is complete, water services will be renewed from the new water main to property owners’ curbs, located in the utility right of way behind the curb in the grass or sidewalk, followed by restoration of soil, concrete and trenches.

The water authority estimates construction to take five to six weeks, and the new line will replace an older water main prone to breaking, while increasing water supply and fire protection in that area. The project has been coordinated with the borough to take place ahead of a planned milling and repaving of Line Street. Line Street between Seventh and Oak Drive will be fully closed for construction, and the rest of Line between Main and Cowpath will be closed to all but local traffic.

Work will take place between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., and the roadway will be open and traversable afterward. School buses, emergency vehicles and residents will have access to their homes, but may experience some minor delays, according to the borough and water authority.

During construction hours, drivers are asked to detour from the closed portions of Line Street, eastwest on Main Street, Seventh Street or Cowpath Road, and then north-south on North Broad Street. The water authority “will make every effort to keep unobstructed access open to local residents to the fullest extent possible,” the water authority said in a statement.

As part of the water main replacement project, the water authority has taken video of all affected curbs, sidewalks, blacktop, lawns and driveways to ensure that any damaged caused during the project is restored to at least equal condition afterward. All concrete, blacktop, and grass areas that are dug up during the project will be restored.
