Local resident crowned Miss Liberty Bell 2018
Kayla Myers, an 18-year-old from Pennsburg, was chosen as the new Miss Liberty Bell 2018 at Venice Island Performing Arts and Recreation Center in Philadelphia on March 11. The Miss Bucks County, Miss Montgomery County, and the Miss Liberty Bell Scholarship Organization Competition that Myers participated in featured 11 contestants from the state of Pennsylvania. As Miss Liberty Bell 2018, Kayla Myers receives a scholarship and the opportunity to compete for the Miss Pennsylvania 2018 title in Pittsburgh the week of June 17. Myers is a 2017 graduate of Upper Perkiomen School District and is currently a student at Temple University where she is majoring in Exercise and Sports Science. She is a member of Temple’s Cherry Cheerleading Squad. She is also a member of Temple University’s Leadership Team for Relay for Life and the vice president of the on-campus club, Random Acts of Kindness.
During her year as Miss Liberty Bell 2018, Myers will travel throughout Pennsylvania advocating her platform issue. Myers’ platform was born from watching a friend undergo treatment for cancer for the second time. Myers will talk to various government representatives, business leaders, community groups and citizens-at-large, urging them to get involved and help “Fight the Fight; Find the Cure for Cancer.”
A number of other contestants received awards during the final and preliminary competition(s), including: Miss Bucks County 2018, Olivia Suarez; Miss Montgomery County 2018, Nia Andrews; First Runner Up, Molly Callanan; Miss Bucks County Outstanding Teen 2018, Mackenzie Sherman; and Miss Liberty Bell Outstanding Teen 2018, Benet Johnson.
