Borough schedules cleanup day, electronics recycling
This year’s annual Community Park Clean Up at Souderton Community Park will be Saturday, April 21.
“It’s a lot of fun, starts at 9 o’clock in the morning, and we hope to get many volunteers,” Mayor John Reynolds said at the April 2 Souderton Borough Council meeting.
Borough employees and officials help with the cleanup, he said.
“Volunteers will rake leaves, pick up trash and add mulch and flowers to enhance the beauty of the park for upcoming community gatherings,” information on the soudertonborough.org website says.
Volunteers are advised to bring work gloves. A lunch will be provided for the volunteers following the cleanup at the park at Reliance Road and Wile Avenue.
Persons planning to take part in the clean up are asked to contact the borough office at 215-723-4371 or email bea@soudertonborough.org, maryjane@soudertonborough.org or laura@soudertonborough.org.
An Electronics Recycling Day will be held 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 19, in the municipal parking lot behind the borough office and police station at 31 W. Summit St.
“The event is only offered to Souderton Borough residents, and you would need to obtain a voucher from our office to participate,” Borough Manager Mike Coll said.
Souderton Borough residents can request a voucher at the borough office from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays; proof of residency will be required, according to information on the borough’s website.
“There will be a fee to collect television sets and the old computer monitors,” Coll said.
The fee will be $20 to $40, he said, with most people probably paying the $20 rate. There is no fee for recycling other electronics.
The information on the borough’s website advises people to delete all personal information from electronics before recycling and to remove batteries to be recycled separately.
A list of accepted electronics includes cables and wires, computers, copiers, DVD and VHS players, ink jet cartridges, keyboards, laptop computers, modems, monitors, peripherals, phones, printers, radios, routers, scanners, servers, stereos and tablets and iPads.
The following types of electronics will not be accepted: freon-containing devices, house fans or heaters and other plastic electronics, metal appliances, microwaves and toaster ovens, oversized electronics or stereo systems, shop vacuums, vacuum cleaners or televisions with broken screens.
The entrance to the recycling event will be from the Souderton Community Park entrance on Main Street. Follow staff instructions and signs for exiting onto West Summit Street.
The electronics recycling event is presented by Souderton Borough and J.P. Mascaro & Sons.
