James Makovics and Skyler Shaw of Boy Scout Troop 542 in Maple Glen received the Eagle Scout Award, the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scout program of the Boy Scouts of America, at a recent Court of Honor ceremony.

Makovics earned 31 merit badges and attended one of the BSA High Adventure Bases, the Florida National High Adventure Sea Base in Islamorada, Fl. He also participat­ed in summer camp at Ressica Falls, Pa., with the troop for five years. His leadership positions in the troop included assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, patrol quartermas­ter and troop quartermas­ter. For his Eagle Project, Makovics helped the Hatboro YMCA prepare for its children’s summer camp program by leading a team of youths and adults in clearing and mulching a nature trail for the campers to enjoy. The team also repaired six picnic tables and built two new ones for the children to use. Makovics, who is a senior at Hatboro-Horsham High School, will attend Pennsylvan­ia State University in the fall and plans to major in computer science.

Skyler Shaw earned 27 merit badges and has held leadership positions in the troop including Assistant Scribe, Chaplain Aide, Historian and Webmaster. He attended one of the BSA High Adventure Bases, The Summit Bechtel Reserve in Beckley, West Virginia. For five consecutiv­e years he joined his troop for summer camp at Ressica Falls, Pa. For his Eagle project, Shaw led a group of volunteers who installed a gravel walkway next to a storage container at Chelten-Church of Hope in Dresher, where he is an active member. The team also weeded and cleaned the area around the unit. A junior at Upper Dublin High School, Shaw enjoys playing the guitar, working with computers, and playing tennis.
