LANSDALE » June’s winner of the Lansdale Business of the Month award is one that has brought the spirit of the boardroom, in more ways than one, to the town.

Boardroom Spirits, and co-owners Marat Mamedov and Zsuzsa Palotas, were recognized on Wednesday night for adding countless new flavors to the community through their familyowned and -operated distillery.

“A is for Apple, B is for beet, C is for carrot, and P is for pear. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, you will shortly,” said council member Carrie Hawkins Charlton, before explaining that each of those is a flavor of spirits available at Boardroom.

In February 2016, the husband and wife opened the distillery in a former industrial building at 575 W. Third St., just below the borough’s water tower. In their two-and-a-half years there, Hawkins Charlton said, they’ve created a style of their own by combining American and European tastes and techniques using local and seasonal fruits, grains and vegetables to create unique flavors of vodka, whiskey and other new spirits.

“We were very lucky that they have chosen Lansdale as their home. On every bottle, it says ‘Made in Lansdale,’” Hawkins Charlton said.

Since their spirits have proven so popular, Hawkins Charlton said, they’ve started a renovation project to expand their tasting area, which would be finished this summer, and plan to install a new, larger still in their main building. Boardroom also helps promote other local small businesses, including restaurants where their beverages are served, and host a weekly “Food Truck Friday” with varying food vendors over the summer, along with fundraisers, workshops, yoga classes and more.

“They are very happy to be a part of our community, and I for one am very happy to have them here,” Hawkins Charlton said.

Mamedov thanked Hawkins Charlton and borough council for the award, and the rest of the borough’s residents for their support and patronage.

“Ever since the distillery opened our doors 28 months ago, the Lansdale community has been nothing but great, and supportive,” he said.

“We’ll continue to reinvest, and grow, in Lansdale, and hopefully put Lansdale on the map as the future spirits capital of the area,” Mamedov said.
