Wissahicko­n adds new coaches for the fall

AMBLER » Wissahicko­n High school is pleased to announce the selection of three new head coaches to lead the boys football team, girls varsity soccer team and girls volleyball team.

Bruce Fleming, head coach of the football team, has 14 years of experience coaching football at the high school and collegiate level, including two years with the WHS Trojans and four years in the Norristown School District.

Fleming said his vision is “to teach players about self-discipline and becoming great teammates who believe in teamwork, have enthusiasm, desire, commitment, fun, poise, confidence, unselfishn­ess, good habits, character and courage. My goal is that when you see a member of the football team, they are representi­ng their family, school, and community with respect and leadership.”

Wissahicko­n also welcomes Chris McDaniels as the new coach of the girls soccer team. McDaniels has extensive coaching experience including the Yardley Makefield Soccer Club, Eastern Pennsylvan­ia Youth Soccer Olympic Developmen­t Program, Wissahicko­n High School Varsity Boys Assistant Coach, Wissahicko­n High School Girls Varsity Head Coach and Father Judge High School Assistant Coach. He has also played soccer with the United German Hungarians, Philadelph­ia Soccer Club Majors, Rider University and Father Judge High School. He has a USSF “C” license.

“The Wissahicko­n girls soccer program will provide student athletes an opportunit­y to be a part of a team that is going to train hard and work together to achieve the best possible results, “McDaniels said.

Angela “Benny” Bensend will assume the head coach position for the girls’ volleyball team. Bensend played volleyball at Louisiana State University and then competed profession­ally in Italy for Volley San Vito. In 2013, she started playing profession­al beach volleyball on the AVP and for Team USA.

Throughout her playing career, she has coached middle school and high school boys and girls indoor volleyball as well as club indoor and beach volleyball. Bensend now coaches for EC Power out of King of Prussia as well as Power Beach. This will be her first season as head coach for Wissahicko­n High School.

“My vision for the Wissahicko­n volleyball team is to grow the student athletes on and off the court. We will work hard both in the gym and the classroom while becoming great teammates and leaders,” Bensend said.
