Ambler rallies past Trooper
Advances into Perky League semifinals
In a thrilling ending, the Ambler Brewers rallied for two runs in the bottom of the sixth to win the decisive game five with a final score of 4-3 against the Trooper Tribe on Tuesday night.
Ambler starting pitcher Andy Noga finished the game with three quick outs in the top of the seventh to advance the Brewers to the semifinals.
“I tried to keep the pace going throughout the game,” said Noga. “I just wanted to challenge all these hitters. I wanted the ball in the win big or go home situation and I knew my teammates were going to pick me up in the end.”
The Tribe was able to spark first in the top of the third inning with three runs to get a 3-0 lead.
After two batters got on with two outs in the third inning, Ryan Donahue put the Tribe on the scoreboard with an RBI single.
Two more runs came in on an error by Ambler’s left fielder to settle the score at 3-0 after three innings.
Ambler did not take long to come back in the bottom of the fourth inning by scoring two runs.
With runners on first and second with one out, Jason Kelmer crushed a double down the third base line to score Nick Fasano and trim the lead to 3-1.
In the next at bat, Chris Hens reached first base on a single base hit that score Pete Moore and make the score 3-2 after four innings.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Phil Pierfy, who was 0-for-3 heading into the inning, got the biggest hit of the night.
With the bases loaded and one out, Pierfy reached first base on a single that score Brett Reynolds and Chris Kersey to give Ambler the 4-3 lead heading into the sev-
enth inning.
“For my first three at bats, I thought I put good contact on the ball but didn’t get the result I wanted,” said Peirfy. “I was just trying to stick to what I was doing before and pretty much hit the ball very hard.”
Ambler head coach Pete Moore was thrilled with the team’s performance in the intense game five.
“I’m really glad Phil came up big in the end for us,” said Moore. “He has proven to be one of our best if not the best hitter for us.”
“I thought Andy was outstanding tonight,” added Moore. “We were on the same page throughout the game today and Trooper only scored in the third inning and he dominated the strike zone after that.”
With the win, the Ambler Brewers will now take on Valley Forge in the Perkiomen Valley Twilight League semifinals. Ambler split four games with Valley Forge in the regular season. Ambler 4, Trooper 3
