Forrest Rogers Memorial Race coming Saturday

-

The man who had the idea and carried it forward to create Grandview Speedway, the late Forrest Rogers, will be honored with the annual Pioneer Pole Buildings Forrest Rogers Memorial race featuring the NASCAR T.P.Trailers 358 Modifieds on Saturday, Aug. 11. The 50-lap race for the will reward the winner with $10,000.

The Bechtelsville clay oval will have a large field of Modified racers on hand to try to earn the prestige of winning the race run in honor of the speedway founder and of course there is the $10,000 first prize money.

Heading up the list of regulars waiting for challenges from visitors is ten-time track champion Jeff Strunk who is in battle for another title.

Mike Gular is set to try for the win. As this is being written he is the point leader looking for his first track title. And then there is Craig Von Dohren, another 10-time track champion, and guess what? He is in the thick of the battle for the track title…….again.

Von Dohren is going after his fourth straight Pioneer Pole Buildings Forrest Rogers Memorial victory and he has a total of 8 wins to his credit in the prestigious race going back to 1986. Other standouts that have won the Classic are Fred Rahmer the sprint car great (four times a winner), Duane Howard, Jeff Strunk, Ray Swinehart and others.

Others that figure in as favorites are recent feature winners Doug Manmiller and Ray Swinehart along with Frank Cozze, three feature winner Brett Kressley, Jared Umbenhauer, Tim Buckwalter, and a host of others.

This race is very important to those chasing after the point crowns in each division. Right now there are just six Saturday night events remaining on the schedule for the 2018 season. The battle for the point titles will close out on September 8th when Lansdale radio station WNPV sponsors Champion’s Night.

In addition to the Modifieds there will be full shows for the Late Models and Sportsman stock cars. As pointed out Gular leads in the Modified points while Danny Snyder, away from racing at Grandview for a number of years, is on top in the Late Model point standings while sophomore racing sensation Louden Reimert leads in the Sportsman. Interesting to note that both Gular and Reimert are leading the standings without benefit of a feature win.

Admission for this special event is $25 for adults, $5 for youngsters 6 through 11 and under 6 are admitted FREE. Always free parking on the speedway grounds.

Fans are reminded that the richest event of the season is coming up on the

schedule when the 48th Annual Freedom 76 is set to take place on Saturday, September 15th. As usual, with $25,000 up for grabs for the winner, it is expected that there will be racers coming from other tracks to test their talents and make a run for the big check.

In addition racer Bobby Gunther Walsh and his sponsors have posted a $1,000 Hard Charger Award for the race. Walsh is sponsored by Mrs T’s Pierogies, Mike & Ike and Hot Tamales candies, ResQ Natural Supplements, Dr. Eric Lebby and a number of others.

This event is worth the trip south. The World of Outlaws’ Late Models firstever visit to Georgetown Speedway last year packed the house with fans eager to witness history for the inaugural Fulton Bank 40. This year, the excitement for the August 16 event builds on last year’s Rookie vs. Veteran battle on the fast clay oval.

The largest paycheck ever written by Georgetown Speedway left in the hands Devin Moran and his team last year after a dominating flag-to-flag performance on the half-mile dirt track. The then Rookie of the Year contender was able to defend his lead position from home state hero Austin Hubbard and eventual Series Champion Brandon Sheppard, who followed him through the checkers. This marked his second and final win of the season.

Just short of the podium was 2011 Series Champion Rick Eckert, the only fulltime driver on the tour already familiar with the track, hence the man to watch. Eckert finished second after a last-lap pass by regional racer Dale Hollidge during a 2016 Ultimate Super Late Model Series event at Georgetown Speedway.

Known as a king of the half-mile, Rick Eckert will be looking to improve last year’s finish and piggy-back off of his recent podium finish at Ogilvie Raceway, while Moran battles for win number two of the season again.

Like the inaugural race, this year’s Fulton Bank 40 will feature 40 laps and a $10,000 payday for the winner.
