Several of our own parishioners have been trained as health promoters and do the screening with the help of others. We are continuing to expand the range of services to include referrals to clinics. The goals of this effort are to increase medical knowledge and care, to save lives and to enable better use of hospital resources. The focus is on the underserved populations near us, but we welcome all parishioners to come see what’s happening and see if there may be a role for you. INFANT SAFE SLEEP COMMUNITY WORKSHOP

Saturday, Aug. 18: The Norristown Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Silhouettes® is hosting a free Kappa Infant Safe Sleep Community Workshop to address Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDs) from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Montgomery County OIC, 1101 Arch Street, Norristown. Attendees will have an opportunity to obtain baby gifts including portable cribs, receive critical information and engage in interactive conversation with Einstein staff. We are partnering with Einstein Medical Center Montgomery, Montgomery County OIC and The Norristown Branch of NAACP to assure that this informative event will attract community shareholders who are pregnant, have a baby or caring for babies. We want to increase public awareness about the impact of SIDS and bring home the fact that there are ways that SIDs can be prevented. There are many prenatal services available to residents in Norristown, as there are in the rest of the country. However, the infant mortality rate remains high, in Norristown, particularly for minorities. Our organization received the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Safe Infant Sleep Community Engagement Project Mini-Grant funded by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), National Institutes of Health (NIH), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The Norristown Kappa Silhouettes is an auxiliary to the Norristown Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. ® The purpose of the organization is to provide support and assistance to local community organizations. Over the years, the Silhouettes have provided assistance to the Norristown Ministries Hospitality Center, Family House, the Cole Manor School and others. The organization has also, for many years, provided scholarships to Norristown High School graduates who engage in post-high school educational activities. Additionally, the Norristown Kappa Silhouettes® are very involved with community activities generated by their husbands who are members of the Norristown Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. ®
