Paul Joseph Nelson and Dorothy B. Sherman.

Paul Joseph Nelson died at Souderton (PA) Mennonite Home on September 13, 2018.

He is survived by his children — Sarah Ruth, Peter Levi (Emily Bender), and Benjamin Henry Paul Nelson — and by an older brother, Benjamin H. (Susan Gardner) Nelson, and a younger sister, Barbara (James) Nelson Gingerich.

His wife of more than forty years, Dawn Ruth Nelson, died in August 2017.

Paul was born in Iowa City, Iowa on April 23, 1951 to Boyd and Welma (Graber) Nelson. He graduated from Bethany Christian High School (Goshen, IN) in 1969, and from Goshen College in 1973 with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry.

From 1979-1991 Paul and Dawn were a part of a Mennonite mission and peace witness team in Dublin, Ireland. They then lived in Harleysvil­le, PA from 1991-2015.

Paul worked as an informatio­n technology manager with Laminators, Incorporat­ed (Hatfield) for 20 years.

Paul and Dawn were part of Salford Mennonite Church (Harleysvil­le); then Methacton Mennonite Church (Eagleville), and Plains Mennonite Church (Hatfield). In 2014 he was diagnosed with progressiv­e supranucle­ar palsy, a form of frontotemp­oral dementia.

The family extends special thanks to his devoted caregivers at the Souderton Mennonite Home, to Barry’s Boys, and to numerous volunteers from the Plains congregati­on who supported Paul in his last years of life. Memorial service will be at 3 pm on Sunday, September 23, at Plains Mennonite Church, 50 W Orvilla Road, Hatfield PA, with a viewing taking place from 2-2:45 pm.
