CB West 34, Tennent 14

WARMINSTER » CB West stuck to a solid running game and strong special teams and got a conference win out of it.

Behind a determined offensive line, the Bucks beat host William Tennent 35-14 Friday night. After a couple special teams miscues in a close loss a week ago, there was plenty of motivation to go around.

The Bucks were opportunistic in the first half and it was enough to give them a lead. CB West punter Sean Metzer put pressure on Tennent all first half, kicking long and away from return men.

His first punt, thanks to an assist by the gunners, pinned Tennent at its own one-yard line. Two plays later, a botched snap led to a fumble and a recovery by West’s Jack Spradlin.

Tennent hurt itself with penalties throughout the half, negating a couple of long catch-and-runs by Ryan Savage. A short punt then handed West a short field to work with early in the second quarter and again, the Bucks capitalized.

A couple runs by Joseph Fay got the ball down on the two, with quarterback Gavin Grondahl hitting Jack Fallon for a two-yard TD pass.

West lost Jack Neri, a starting linebacker and its other quarterback, to an injury on its second defensive series. The Bucks were also without senior TE/DE Luke Benson, a Syracuse recruit.

Tennent, which is also banged up, had to play without RB/LB Eddie North.

The third was an offensive showcase in comparison. After Tennent punted the opening drive, the Bucks used a balanced drive mostly running up the gut and scored on a two-yard Grondahl keeper.

Tennent finally got a few big plays to run together and put together a quality drive that ended in a seven yard Fernando Delgado TD run.

Fallon had the play of the game on the ensuing drive, taking a handoff up the gut, pushing out to the left edge and bulldozing three piles of tacklers for a 35-yard TD run. The bruising fullback ended with 99 yards on the ground.

Joseph Fay, who had a pick on defense, capped West’s scoring with an 11yard run

Jason Schweizerhof threw a 3-yard TD to Delbaro Matunda for the other Tennent score late in the final quarter.
