NP’s Velaga closing in on state title

Girls Tennis

VELAGA ON A MISSION >> North Penn’s Neha Velaga is two matches from a PIAA Class 3A title. Velaga won her first two matches in Hershey, dropping a total of six games. She dispatched Bethel Park’s Mia Gorman, 6-1, 6-0 in the first round. Next, she defeated Baldwin’s Betthany Youch, 6-3, 6-2. Souderton’s Caitlin Le wasn’t as fortunate losing in the first round to Easton’s Elessa Parks, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1. In 3A Doubles, Methacton’s doubles duo of Dina Nouaime and Tina Prince are also in the semifinals. They defeated Kelly Vanden and Catelyn Janac of State College in the first round 6-0, 6-1. In the second round, the Warriors duo coasted to a 6-0, 6-2 win over Manheim’s Scotland Reynolds/Nicole Honrade, 6-0, 6-2. Nouiame and Prince will be in the semifinals Saturday morning at 10:30 against Shady Side Academy’s Ella Santora and Aya Youssef.

Cross Country

ALL-PAC >> The Pioneer Athletic Conference announced its All-Conference cross country teams. It had a Methacton flavor with four Warrior boys on the first team.

Field Hockey

METHACTON 3, CB EAST 0 >> Reilly Smith, Katy Benton and Rachel Alderfer each scored for the Warriors in the third place game in District 1.

ARCHBISHOP CARROLL 2, O’HARA 0 >> Katie LaBella and Megan Curry scored on Thursday for Carroll in the PCL championsh­ip game.

Girls volleyball

PJP 3, MOUNT ST. JOE’S 0 >> PJP won in the District 1-AA semis Tuesday night behind 11 kills from Sarah Ward.
