Marchini, Bresadola earn AllPSAC XC 1st team honors

Shippensbu­rg’s Bella Marchini (Schwenksvi­lle/Spring-Ford) and Kutztown’s Stephanie Bresadola (Lansdale/North Penn) both earned All-PSAC first-team honors at the PSAC Cross Country championsh­ips last Saturday at Edinboro University.

Marchini finishing in ninth place with a time of 24:26, while fellow Raider Lindsey Gerlach (Doylestown/Central Bucks West) came in 23rd (25:08) to earn All-PSAC second-team honors as Shippensbu­rg won its ninth PSAC title and first since 2016.

Bresadola earn All-PSAC first team honors for the third straight year, the Kutztown senior placing 13th with a time of 24:35 as the Golden Bears finished sixth in the team standings.

• Liberty University field hockey sophomore Jill Bolton (Souderton/Dock Mennonite) was named to the All-Big East First Team for the second time in her career.

Bolton is second on the Flames in both goals (10) and points (24) and has also collected four assists. Liberty ended the season 13-6 after a 5-3 loss to Connecticu­t in the Big East championsh­ip game Sunday.

• Reece Udinski (North Wales/ North Penn) threw and ran for a touchdown and broke VMI football’s records for completion­s in

a single season last Saturday as the Keydets claimed their first win of the season by beating Tusculum College 20-11 last Saturday.

Udinski threw for 172 yards on 17-of-32 passing – his 17 completion­s giving him 271 on the season, surpassing the previous program mark of 269 set in 2014. Udinski also ran a one-yard touchdown to put VMI up 7-0 at 5:33 in the second quarter. Udinski then threw an 11-yard touchdown pass with 2:49 left the third to make it 20-3 Keydets.

•Duke field hockey goalkeeper Sammi Steele (Eagleville/Methacton) was selected to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Second Team.

Steele has a 1.57 goalsagain­st average and seven shutouts this season for the Blue Devils, who finished the regular season 15-5 to earned the fourth seed in the NCAA Division I Tournament. Steele has made 62 saves this season and in the loss to North Carolina Oct. 21 the redshirt junior became the ninth Duke goalie to surpass 200 saves in a career.

• Anthony Russo (Doylestown/Archbishop Wood) became one of just three Temple football players to throw for 400 or more yards in a game last Thursday, the redshirt sophomore quarterbac­k throwing for 444 yards and four touchdowns on 31-of-52 passing in the Owls’ 52-40 loss to undefeated UCF.

Russo also ran 12 times for 46 yards and another touchdown – a five-yard score in the second quarter – as the Owls’ 670 yards of total offense broke the program record of 622 set in a 1974 win over Southern Illinois.

Branden Mack (Wyncote/Cheltenham) caught five passes from Russo for 65 yards and one touchdown – an 18-yard score that put Temple up 10-7 at 6:10 in the first quarter.

• Goalkeeper Shane Smith (Plymouth Meeting/ Plymouth Whitemarsh) made five saves as the Neumann University men’s soccer team won the Atlantic East Conference championsh­ip with a 3-1 win over Cabrini last Saturday.

Last Thursday, Smith made two saves as the Knights shut out Immaculata 2-0 in the conference semifinals.

• Keystone College field hockey goalkeeper Emily Hawkins (Glenside/Cheltenham) made four saves as the Giants shut out Wilson 2-0 last Saturday to win the program’s firstever Colonial State Athletic Conference (CSAC) title. The win improved Keystone to 14-4 as it earned the conference’s bid into the NCAA Division II tournament. The Giant face College of New Jersey in the first round Wednesday.

• James Madison field hockey’s Corey Mayer (Huntingdon Valley/Lower Moreland) was named to the All-Colonial Athletic Associatio­n First Team at midfield/defense. The senior had six goals and four assists to finish with 16 points for the Dukes this season.

• Bloomsburg football senior Chris Gary (Philadelph­ia/Archbishop Wood) recorded two sacks in the Huskies’ 3431 win over West Liberty last Saturday, extending his school-record career sack total to 29.5, which is also fourth all-time in the PSAC. Gary collected five tackles — all solo — in the win.

• Penn State women’s soccer’s Marissa Sheva (Sellersvil­le/Pennridge) scored with 1:52 left in regulation then with just on second late blocked as shot at the goal line to help the Nittany Lions edge Michigan 1-0 in the Big Ten quarterfin­als on Sunday, Oct. 28.

Sheva’s goal was her second this season for the Lions, who advanced to the Big Ten final before losing to Minnesota Sunday on penalties kicks after a 0-0 draw. Penn State, 15-5-1 overall this year, starts the NCAA Tournament Friday.

• Chase Wassel (North Wales/Lansdale Catholic) had a match-high 19 kills along with seven digs and four aces as the Holy Family women’s volleyball team earned its 18thconsec­utive victory, besting Post 3-1 last Saturday to set a new program record for wins in a season with 26.

Wassel’s 19 kills gave her a 530, a new career-high for the senior and also put her just seven short of the Tigers’ single-season record for kills set in 2007.

• Misericord­ia men’s soccer’s Ethan Aigeldinge­r (Perkasie/Pennridge) and Dylan Molyneaux (Harleysvil­le/Souderton) were both selected to the AllMiddle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom Second Team, Aigeldinge­r at forward and Molyneaux at midfield.

Aigeldinge­r, a senior, had one goal and tied for the team lead in assists with four. Sophomore Molyneaux finished the season with three goals.

Saint Joseph’s women’s soccer goalkeeper Grace Bendon (Doylestown/ Central Bucks West) was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Second Team. Bendon has played every minute in goal this season for the Hawks, who finished the year 145-2 after a loss to VCU in the A-10 tournament semifinals last Friday. Bendon allowed 0.79 goals per game and collected eight shutouts.

• Muhlenberg women’s volleyball’s Kelly Tornetta (Phoenixvil­le/Pope John Paul II) was named to the Centennial Conference All-Conference Second Team at outside hitter while Franklin & Marshall’s Grace Polisano (Ambler/Germantown Academy) was earned Honorable Mention at outside hitter.

Tornetta was second in the Centennial in kills (325) and fourth in kills per set (3.16). She was fourth on Muhlenberg in digs per set (2.57) and total blocks (20). She finishes her career fourth in Muhlenberg’s all-time list in kills (1,178) and kills per set (2.99) and sixth in hitting percentage (.232).

Polisano is third on Franklin & Marshall in kills per set (2.06) and fourth in digs per set (1.94).

• Arcadia field hockey senior Gabby Sedares (Telford/Souderton) was selected to the All-MAC Commonweal­th Second Team at forward.

Sedares leads the Knights and is fourth in the conference with 11 goals. She also handed out six assists for 28 points — the point total fifth-best in the MAC Commonweal­th.

• Eastern University field hockey’s Ali Balmer (Perkasie/Dock Mennonite) earned All-MAC Freedom Second Team honors at forward. The junior was third on the Eagles in goals (6) and points (15) and fourth in assists (3).

• Shippenbur­g football’s Winston Eubanks (Philadelph­ia/La Salle) had four catches for 45 yards and a touchdown while Charles Headen III (Philadelph­ia/La Salle) finished with four receptions for 26 yards as the Raiders rolled past East Stroudsbur­g last Saturday.

Eubanks’ touchdown catch was from nine yards out to give Shippensbu­rg a 21-7 lead at 8:01 in the second quarter.
