Irvin. M. Detwiler, 86, passed peacefully on November 16, 2018. He was the devoted husband of Althea (Alderfer) Detwiler for more than65 years.

Born March 29, 1932 in Salford Twp., PA, he was the oldest son of Irvin F. and Lizzie (Moyer) Detwiler.

His son Scott, sister Ruth (Clemmer) and two brothers, Paul and Wesley preceded him in death.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three daughters, Shere Detwiler, Rebecca White, and Susan Russack, five grandchild­ren; three great-grandchild­ren; and five sisters; Lorene (Nyce), Miriam (Brockwell), Rhoda (Reilly), Joyce (Sneddon), Ferne Detwiler and brother, Homer Detwiler.

Irvin graduated from Goshen College, Goshen Biblical Seminary, attended Temple University, Phila, PA, and Oxford University in England. He and his family attended Union Methodist Church, Havertown, PA for many years where Irv taught the adult Sunday School Class. Presently he was a member of Zion Mennonite Church in Souderton, PA. He pastored East Goshen Church in Goshen, IN and was a public school math teacher in West Philadelph­ia. Later in life he coowned, with his wife, a successful dry-cleaning and laundromat business in Woodlyn, PA.

He was an avid reader, world traveler, and loved spending time with family boating and water skiing, and was very competitiv­e in games like Rook.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 10:00-11:00 AM, Saturday, December 1 st at Dock Woods Community Chapel, 275 Dock Dr., Lansdale, where a celebratio­n of life service will follow at 11:00 AM.
