Elizabeth S. ‘Bette’ Niess of Harleysville

Elizabeth S. “Bette” Niess, 91, of Harleysville, passed away unexpectedly Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 2018, with family by her side. Her husband, John S. Niess, died February 26, 2001.

Born December 10, 1926, in Willow Grove, she was the daughter of the late Calvin and Sarah (Seese) Brumfield.

Bette worked for American Olean Tile for over 30 years. She was a long time active member of St. John’s UCC, Lansdale, where she was involved with many church activities, along with volunteering for Manna on Main Street.

While residing at Peter Becker Community she enjoyed participating in their hymn sings. Bette was an avid reader.

Her survivors include three children, Deborah McDonald (Thomas), Telford, Barbara Anderson, Royersford, and Steven Niess (Debra Jo), East Greenville; eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; siblings, Jean Yates, Pat Carbocci, Wayne Martin, and Calvin Brumfield.

Bette is predeceased by a sister, Shirley Murphy.

There will be a viewing starting 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, 701 Derstine Ave., Lansdale, PA 19446, with Funeral Services at 10:30 a.m. Burial to follow at Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Ambler.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that any contributions be made to St. John’s UCC 500 West Main St., Lansdale, PA 19446.
