Drexel’s Greenberg named CAA Player of the Week
Drexel women’s basketball’s Bailey Greenberg (North Wales/ Archbishop Wood) earned her first Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week Award Monday after the junior forward led the Dragons to the championship of University of Vermont’s TD Bank Classic last weekend.
Greenberg finished with 19 points, five rebounds and a pair of steals in Drexel’s 51-39 win over Siena in the tournament opener last Friday. Aubree Brown (Philadelphia/Archbishop Wood) added 12 points, eight assists and five rebounds while Kate Connolly (Harleysville/Souderton) chipped in two points and two assists.
Last Saturday, Greenberg scored a career-high 22 points while also collecting eight rebounds and two steals in a 6044 championship game win over Vermont. Brown had three points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals as the Dragons improved to 4-1.
• Vanderbilt football quarterback Kyle Shurmur (Philadelphia/La Salle) was named Southeastern Conference (SEC) Co-Offensive Player of the Week Monday after throwing for a season-high 367 yards and three touchdowns in the Commodores’ 38-13 win over Tennessee last Saturday.
Shurmur completed his first 15 passes and broke his own school single-game completion percentage record by finishing 31-of-35 passing (88.6 percent) as Vandy (6-6) earned bowl eligibility as it claimed a thirdstraight win over the Volunteers for the first time since 1926.
The 31 completions was also a season-high for Shurmur, who is the first Vanderbilt QB with three wins over Tennessee since the 1920s.
• Jefferson women’s basketball’s Jessica Kaminski (Philadelphia/Archbishop Wood) was named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week Monday after averaging 24.0 points per game as the Rams earned wins over Shippensburg and East Stroudsburg last week.
Kaminski led Jefferson with 21 points and also finished with eight rebounds and seven assists last Tuesday in the 78-64 win over Shippensburg. Also for the Rams, Caitlyn Cunningham (Dresher/Mount Saint Joseph) had 10 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals, Alynna Williams (Ambler/Plymouth Whitemarsh) registered seven points, three rebounds and two assists, Erin Maher (Lansdale/ North Penn) had six points, three rebounds and three assist and Bridget Arcidiacono (Holland/Archbishop Wood) had six points and two rebounds.
Sunday in the 70-56 win over East Stroudsburg, Kaminski tied a career high with 27 points and also hauled in 15 rebounds for her second double-double this season and 19th of her career. Kaminski also added five assists and three steals as Jefferson improved to 6-0. Cunningham chipped in 18 points and eight rebounds, Maher finished with 14 points, seven rebounds and four steals while Williams had four points, three assists and a pair of rebounds.
• Collin Gillespie (Warminster/Archbishop Wood) scored a game-high 17 points and handed out a pair of assists as the Villanova men’s basketball team defeated Florida State 6660 in the Advocare Invitational championship game Sunday in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
• Gettysburg women’s basketball’s Emma Dorshimer (Jenkintown/Jenkintown) earned her second-straight Centennial Conference Player of the Week honors Monday after she scored a game-high 28 points — 19 in the second half — as the Bullets opened conference play with a 6353 victory over Franklin & Marshall last Tuesday. Dorshimer also collected seven rebounds and four assists as Gettysburg claimed its third win in a row.
• USciences women’s
basketball’s Irisa Ye (North Wales/North Penn) was named to her third straight CACC Weekly Honor Roll Monday after the sophomore guard scored 20 points in both of the Devils’ wins at the Rollins Thanksgiving Tournament — 76-60 over Hillsdale College last Friday and 62-50 over Rollins last Saturday.
Jess Huber (Hatfield/ North Penn) and Taylor Hamm (Collegeville/Perkiomen Valley) each added four points in the Hillsdale victory. Mikaela Giuliani (Lansdale/North Penn) collected six rebound and two assists.
In the win over Rollins, Shannon May (Rydal/Archbishop Wood) had two points and six rebounds, Huber had three assists and two rebounds and Giuliani finished with two rebounds and two steals.
• Millersville women’s basketball’s Sam Brusha (Abington/Abington) was named PSAC East Division Freshman of the Week after coming off the bench to score a team-high 23 points in the Marauders’ 75-65 loss to Goldey-Beacom last Tuesday. Brusha also collected six rebounds and a block in the contest.
• Holy Family women’s basketball’s Molly Masciantonio (Morton/Archbishop Carroll) was named CACC Freshman of the Week after averaging 19.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3.0 steals as the Tigers split two games last week.
Masciantonio had 25 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals last Thursday in HFU’s 68-62 overtime win over Bloomsburg.
Sunday, she finished with 14 points, six rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals in a 51-56 loss to West Chester.
WCU’s Gabrielle Troisi (Norristown/Pope John Paul II) registered a doubledouble with 11 points, 13 rebounds and two assists in the Golden Rams’ victory. Last Tuesday, Troisi finished with 19 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals as West Chester topped Lincoln 84-80.
• Kutztown men’s basketball’s Anthony Lee (Willow Grove/Abington) scored a game-high 32 points to go along eight rebounds, a career-high three blocks and two assists as the Golden Bears fell to Lincoln 9491 in double overtime last Tuesday.
• Gwynedd Mercy women’s basketball’s Susan Bossler (Reading/Pope John Paul II) was named Atlantic East Conference Player of the Week Monday after averaging 18.3 points per game as the Griffins
went 2-1 last week.
Last Tuesday, Bossler had 13 points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals as Gwynedd topped Arcadia 77-65. Sydney Thompson (Collegeville/Methacton) added five points, 11 rebounds and three assists in the win.
Bossler posted 18 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals last Saturday as the Griffins bested Mount Aloysius in Misericordia’s Sisters of Mercy Tournament. Thompson had five points, four assists and three rebounds while Marissa Sandone (Harleysville/Souderton) had nine points. Sunday, Bossler finished with 24 points and five rebounds in a 73-59 loss to Salve Regina.
• Allison Chernow (Dresher/Upper Dublin) tied an Emory women’s basketball record with nine 3-pointers and finished with 39 points — the second highest single-came total in program history — as the Eagles lost in double overtime to host Transylvania last Saturday at the Gratz Park Private Wealth Classic.
Chernow also had five rebounds and five assists while Erin Lindahl (Yardley/Germantown Academy) added 11 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Sunday in a 69-57 win over Denison, Chernow went for 25 points, eight rebounds and four assists with Lindahl finished with eight points, four rebounds and two assists.
• Nicole Munger (Doylestown/Central Bucks West) connected on seven 3-pointers as she scored a career-high 27 points and also grabbed five rebounds as the Michigan women’s basketball team topped Washington 80-73 Sunday in the third place game at the Gulf Coast Showcase.
In the Wolverines’ 7054 win over Missouri last Friday in the tournament opener, Munger — who was named to the Showcase’s all-tournament team — finished with 11 points and two assists. Munger had nine points and four rebounds in the 69-52 loss to Texas in the semifinals last Saturday.
• Muhlenberg football’s Nick DeLucas (Willow Grove/Upper Moreland) had 28 yards on 12 carries, kicker Todd Spirit (Dresher/ Upper Dublin) went 5-for-5 on extra points while Kwasi Ampomah (Philadelphia/ Germantown Academy) totaled two tackles as the Mules advanced the NCAA Division III quarterfinals for the first time ever with their 35-6 second-round win over Randolph-Macon last Saturday.
Muhlenberg (11-1), which has tied the school record for victories, visits defending national champion Mount Union Saturday.
• Devan Rimmer (Perkasie/Pennridge) had a season-high 21 points —hitting four 3-pointers — and a pair of rebounds as the Widener women’s basketball team improved to 6-0 Sunday with a 84-76 win over Marywood.
Last Tuesday in the Pride’s 75-69 win over Neumann, Rimmer had a teamhigh 14 points along with seven assists, three steals and a pair of rebounds.
• Devon Goodman (Laverock/Germantown Academy) paced the Penn men’s basketball team in scoring for the fifth straight game, finishing with a game-high 16 points, two rebounds and two assists last Saturday as the Quakers routed Division III Stockton 112-63.
• Abbey Spratt (Doylestown/Central Bucks West) had 11 points, three rebounds, Cassie Sebold (Willow Grove/Archbishop Wood) collected nine points and four assists while Lauren Crim (Warrington/Lansdale Catholic) had seven points, seven rebounds and two assists as the Chestnut Hill women’s basketball team defeated East Stroudsburg 71-66 last Tuesday.
Sunday, Crim had a game-high 14 points while Sebold added six points, three rebounds and three assists as the Griffins fell to Southern New Hampshire 85-51.
• Ryan McTamney (Roxborough/La Salle) had 15 points and five rebounds while Shane Stark (Collegeville/La Salle) finished with 13 points, eight rebounds, three steals and two assists as the Ursinus men’s basketball team defeated Haverford 78-69 in its Centennial Conference opener last Tuesday.
Zack Muredda (Perkasie/ Pennridge) added three points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals as the Bears won their second straight.
• Amir Hinton (Philadelphia/Abington) had a gamehigh 24 points, five assist and three rebounds as the Shaw men’s basketball team defeated Claflin 71-66 last Saturday. Hinton finished with 26 points, seven rebounds and two blocks last Tuesday in Shaw’s 80-72 loss to Francis Marion.
• Katie May (Rydal/Archbishop Wood) posted eight points and two assists in the Northeastern women’s basketball team’s 54-41 win over Air Force last Saturday.
